Gibson Custom HS5P Custom (Firemist)

Custom shop quality and build
From the select flamed maple to the gorgeous 5-piece maple/walnut neck, the Gibson Custom HS5P Custom exudes custom shop quality. The traditional neck carve is inspiring and extremely comfortable to play. The utmost care was taken with every step of construction to ensure a guitar that not only looks great, but that plays and sounds amazing. You'll love the fat hollowbody tones of the Gibson Custom HS5P Custom.

Hollowbody plus three P-90s equals tonal freedom
Both acoustically and plugged in, the Gibson Custom HS5P Custom absolutely sings. The fully-hollow body allows harmonics and overtones to develop beautifully, and the sweet tone is only enhanced by the impressive sustain. A trio of P-90 single-coil pickups, each with their own volume and tone controls, allow you to explore a very wide tonal range. The Gibson Custom HS5P Custom packs P-90 pickups for a vintage sound that can cover everything from jazz and R&B to country, rock, and blues.

Nitrocellulose finish
The Gibson Custom HS5P Custom wears a gorgeous nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Nitro finishes - standard back in the '60s and '70s - are significantly thinner than today's polyurethane finishes, allowing the guitar to "breathe." Nitro finishes not only look vintage-y wonderful; they also enhance the instrument's tonal qualities.

I love the ES-5 and Switchmaster guitars, so I like it. I'd prefer a different finish, though.

Very pretty, it'll look great hanging on a collector's wall somewhere as a nice piece of art.

No interest in it as a playing guitar I'm afraid.

As much as I am gassing for something hollow with P90s- no, not that one.

Unless it's function far outweighs its form. FAR.

I can totally see myself spending 5 or so minutes strumming the guitar on stage in-between songs with a weird sound or no sound coming out trying to figure out which knob I accidentally turned… lol.

I do that enough with my standard 4 knob Les Paul.

I would love to have something like that.
I have no idea about the varitone. I don't think I've ever heard a positive comment about it on the forums but I love the rest of the guitar.

Obligatory forum comment: "Why can't I get it for $99.95?"

the thing about the varitone is that you have to have a use for it and then know how to use it. most people can't get past volume and tone knobs, never mind a series of capacitors without an instruction manual.
