Fender Coronado 1967 Lake Plaid Blue

If you’re in the market for a hollow body guitar, but want something that will stand out from the usual Casino, 335, Gretch crowd, then this could be just what you’re looking for.


This is a 1967 Fender Coronado in Lake Placid Blue. You may have not heard of this model before, but this was Fenders attempt to capture some of the market from Gibson and Epiphone. They didn’t really catch on for 2 main reasons:


1) Bolt on necks are not popular with jazz musicians

2) The pickups originally installed were crap!


This Coronado is obviously over 50yrs old and has had some restoration work (the neck). In doing so a couple of modern appointments have been made, including hand wound Mojo gold foil pickups, and a 6-way selector switch enabling coil splitting for huge tonal options.

I hear rumblings about it, but I think it will be more along the lines of the one that was in the MIC Fender Modern Player series from a few years ago. Also rumors of a Toronado reboot.

Yea. Practically speaking though, thats about all it does, unless there's something really special about those pickups. But even those are not the original "crap" ones, so you could put them in any other thinline hollow or semi.
Its a pretty color.
