1983 Bond Electraglide Prototype - #014
This is a prototype of the historical Bond Electraglide. Approximately 1400 Electraglides were built in Scotland in 1984-1986. The Edge used his extensively on the Joshua Tree album. The production Electraglide was the most innovative guitar of its time, if not of all time. Made of carbon fiber, it housed a large electronic motherboard and digital switching of pickups and tone controls. Even more innovative was the fingerboard. Instead of frets, the Bond employed an aluminum step system, similar to overlapping roof shingles, making it the easiest playing guitar ever built.
This prototype has a more traditional wood body and neck with a dual humbucker set up. It does, however, sport the aluminum stepped fingerboard (the production Bonds came with anodized black aluminum fingerboards). It was sold at auction at Christie's 25 years ago. Comes with a custom fitting flight case, brush for cleaning off aluminum and chrome, extra sets of strings, Christie's catalog, and care sheet. All electronics work as they should.
