2019 Baseball Thread

I'm not familiar with ther Oakland announcers but the last couple years I've been less and less enthused about Krukow and Kuiper.

The A's also have a Kuiper and he's not a total borelord. Ray Fosse is ok. And sometimes they have Dallas Braden who is an idiot, but at least he's enthusiastic.

Go Rivercats!!

yeah the Giants K and K are just kinda boring at this point. I wish they'd move Dave Flemming from the radio booth to the tv booth. They do the switch up midway through the game but he's on ly in there 2, maybe 3 innings.

As the AAA affiliate of the Giants system, they're awful. They won 55 games last year out of 140. And they'll continue to be awful until the Giants put actual development money into their farm system. Since the Giants won't do that, both the River Cats and the Giants will be awful for the foreseeable future.
all that aside I do like the pick up of Geraldo Parra.....I've always liked watching him play. yea he's a 9 or 10 year veteran I think but he's fun to watch at least.

I still root for my middle of the road Mariners. Its possible they may make the playoffs...but probably not.

I still root for the team I grew up watching, The Phillies , even though I haven't lived in Phila for 20 years now.

Living in NC, my local telephone/internet/cable provider has dropped 2 Fox Sports channels that carry Braves games, along with Hurricanes hockey, Hornets basketball, and ACC games.

But I can still watch SEC and Big Ten networks.

One of them is Kuip's little brother Greg.

Kuip is a capable pbp announcer, and they have good chemistry. But he's no Joe Buck.

Over the years I have learned more about the game, and pitch theory in particular from Krukow than anyone else, ever. Every pitch in a game is a 4D chess game. Few smarter baseball people around than him, and one that is is Jon Miller.

K&K will end up in the broadcasters HOF, along with Miller of course.

Wowzers!

One thing the article got wrong though: This is not an unprecedented move by the Padres. The ownership went into full on "Steinbrenner Mode" for their World Series season in 98. They spent huge money and brought in nearly an entire roster of BIG guns. From the ludicrously good pitching staff, to the myriad high profile position players, they came to play, they came to win. Unfortunately, you can't out "Steinbrenner" Steinbrenner... as fate would have, they ran into a buzzsaw that wore pinstripes.

Does any one else feel like this the ultimate marriage of convenience? Machado wants to play now, so he will, and probably sooner rather than later, the Pads will trade him to someone for players/contracts that fit their window a little better.

No? Am I missing something? Are the friars about to wade into the fray?

I watched that WS from bus stations in the Andes. As a diehard Red Sox fan, it really sucked to be in the middle of fucking nowhere (albeit a transcendant, beautiful nowhere), watching them win yet again.

Machado adds 4 to 6 wins to the Padres record from last year. That means they'll win 70 to 72 games this year. Not exactly bringing home the pennant with just this move. The article does address their fantastic farm system, but as OGG will attest, their prospects always seem to bust once they make it to Petco.
