GPOTD 08.19.13

I am not into the whole vintage instrument thing. All I care about is do I like how the guitar looks, sounds, and plays. If I can get that at a reasonable price, I'm good. I don't knock those who are into vintage instruments, but there is no way I could justify it for myself.

My most expensive instrument is a custom-made long neck banjo that cost $600. I'm a cheap bastard. :grin:
 
Rereading what I wrote I realize I may have sounded like I was trying to sell you on an old guitar. I didn't mean to sound like that.

For myself I really like old guitars. There's just something special about old wood. :rolleyes: The market being what it is I'll never be able to afford one of the more popular models but when I see something like this it seems like a pretty fair price.

No, it didn't seem that way at all. I have a rather strange approach (big surprise) that differs from most musicians. I expect to be the oddball. :rolleyes:
 
Ummmm, it's pretty good, but I don't know if I'd want it. My indecisoin is due to the not so favorable impressions I was left with, after trying out 2 or 3, 60s ES-330s back in the day. The necks were OK, but I didn't like the lack of higher fret access, and their P90s squealed like a pig, when the gain was cranked up. They were nice blues guitars, but not so nice rock guitars IMO.
 
Color's not bad, but I wouldn't be able to reach the upper frets. They'd have to take a couple of grand off the price just for that :embarrassed:
 
Hell yes! That seems like a grat price for a '59 Gibson. I'm sure someone is going to scoop that up quickly.
 
If it were black if be trying to sell a kidney or something to pick it up. As it is, I'd take it RIGHT NOW if I had the cash. I love 335's and I live P90's, not sure where I could go wrong.

Not to pick on Ellen, but this is a pet peeve of mine. It wasn't long ago that I had a long haired, tattooed salesman at Guitar Center actually try to talk me out of a Casino for this very reason.

You have to have the right tool for the job!
Saying that a hollow-body with single coils can't handle high gain is like saying that a Porsche can't handle a day of mudding. It wasn't designed for that purpose and shouldn't be played in that situation. This would be a fantastic guitar for jazz, jump blues, swing, rockabilly, clean rhythm, pretty much anything BUT high gain.

Ok, I'm done ranting now. Sorry bout that, but it has to be said every now and then :grin:
