    Get an iPod and use doubletwist (click here) instead of iTunes. It essentially operates exactly like itunes does, but it does everything that we all want itunes to do, and last time I checked it was free. It really is the best way to go.

    Short answers to your questions... YES you need to memorize every note on the fretboard. There is no magic wand the greats waved, or potion they drank. All practice and commitment. That being said there are tons of "tricks", some already being mentioned to help memorize all the notes...
