Yamaha purchases Line 6

what worries me is this

L6 has been pretty good at keeping up with the online thing.
i.e. I can upload/download tones
will that change?

I see this being a bad thing. I'm a huge Line 6 guy, but I haven't seen a Yamaha product in a long time that I have any respect for. Why are they selling the company anyway? Seems that Line 6 has pretty much been a license to print money.

Sounds like a good deal for both parties. Yamaha gets a cutting edge technology company. Line 6 gets the funding of a gigantic company to keep doing what they're doing. And I agree with the earlier comment that it probably helps Yamaha's lackluster electric guitar sales here in the US while bringing up the quality level of Line 6's instrument offerings.

Possibly because L6 is in need of some money for new chip designs.

Their stuff is good, but, smartphone processors are 98% of the way their and the next 5 years could be rough going from a hardware standpoint.
Plus, the decision to keep the variax tech in house was a costly decision for a company who usually doesn't work in wood and screws. I don't think they sell as much as they would have had they been an add on for an established name guitar brand.

Yamaha works for them as they have the guitar/bass manufacturing established and they make their own chips in house.
This ideally allows L6 to become an Idea shop for yamaha's manufacturing base.

Line 6 probably needed the cash and to be perfect honest. iPad and iPhone sound as good if not better than Line 6 stuff. Like Virtual Pariah said they also have a established manufacturing base in Yamaha which I hope helps bring down prices of Line6's stuff. Their guitars are way too high.

Know what's even better than owning shares of a company worth millions of dollars? Just having millions of dollars to spend and not having to run the company.

Yeaaaahhhhhh I'm gonna hafta go ahead and call bullshit on the notion that an iPhone app sounds "just as good".

Not that there might not be some cool iPhone apps, but seriously. A Prius may get you onto the hiway just fine, but the driving experience isn't necessarily as good as a BMW M3.

That whole notion is absolutely ludicrous.

Plus, I don't want to have my guitar signal cut out in the middle of song while I'm playing a show because my wife ends me a text asking me to pick up milk on my way home.

Jeezus.

Sorry to sound like an ass, but get real. FFS.
