The official SKYRIM thread!

That's one hell of an exploit! Totally removes the need to invest in any perk points in the "Speech" tree beyond "Merchant".

Shit. Wish I could do that on PC.

You can't? Hell, I never invest any points into Speech at all. Just save, kill the proprietor, and reload from the save.

I dig it. I'm a big fan of exploding anything.
Speaking of which, do you have Dawnguard installed?

I'm wiping all of my drives of Skyrim, NMM & steam, defrag, then gonna do a fresh install. Old saves too. Seems that the game would hang right at char creation or when I tried to get into the race menu later on, even to change a stinking hairstyle. No more ENB crap for me either, seems that all my game problems started when I added it in.

What's ENB? Not familiar with the term...

BTW - it might not be necessary to completely wipe the game AND Steam...if you're not aware, you can do the "Validate Game Cache", which should repair any corrupted files in your "Skyrim" folder, and it'll take significantly less time.

I always get up to "Merchant", so I could at least sell off the junk to the nearest merchant NPC that they wouldn't ordinarily take. Using your method, though, I can see immediately how it wouldn't be necessary. You'd be able to get unlimited gold from good old Belethor...or whoever.

Generally speaking, I could cheat like hell with the console commands, but I've never done it once. I like to play it as straight as I can, even through the tedious stuff, and there can be tons of tedious stuff. Makes me feel like I've earned it. :)

So...I never asked this either:

What Perks are you guys investing in, besides what are pretty much considered essentials (Enchanting & Alchemy)?

I've neglected Enchanting & Alchemy all this time. until I read your post yesterday I hadn't given them much thought. I usually put the first point into Speech, Alchemy, Enchanting, only because it's a 10% or 20% increase, but that's it. I'll be paying more attention to them now :]

I generally concentrate my characters. My first was a 2hand tank so I went deep into Heavy Armor and 2Hand, Block up to Deadly Bash (doesn't require a shield). My second was an Assasin so I went deep into Sneak & Illusion, some into Archery.

But I think I focus more on completing a story than building the character, none of my toons are over 40. When the quest lines I'm playing for that character run out, I start looking at starting another one. It's not the most efficient way to play, I know, but I guess it's a role playing thing. For example, the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood wouldn't go to Mage school, or be on the front lines of a war, that just wouldn't make sense from a story telling perspective. So I only do some quest lines for certain characters. My current guy is pretty general, so I think I might try to max him...who knows which direction I'll take him.

I'm not happy if my guy isn't slightly stealthy. Even Thog, my Orc Warhammer warrior has a Level 100 Sneak and knows how to use it. I typically play Thieves and Assassin's together, the same as when I'm playing a Warrior I'll do more Companions and Stormcloak rebellion.

No, I've validated the cache multiple times, and it's hanging on something that I introduced. Even on a brand new game it hangs. ENB is a 3rd party graphics enhancer, it affects things like lighting ,shadows, colors... that sort of thing.

Gotcha. Keep in mind that I don't 'role play' any character, so my gameplay suggestions are based along a different premise altogether. My only goal is to be as devastating as possible. I'm not looking for an even fight in any encounter...I'm a power-hungry madman. Some people definitely do play along sets of self-imposed guidelines, and my playing is the antithesis of that.

My feeling is "you'll give me this Daedric Ring if I become a cannibal? I'm down. Where's the salt?"

I always end up dual-enchanting a set of Boots specifically for stealth - Muffle & Sneak...and then dual enchant a ring and necklace which boosts "Sneak" again, along with Archery. It's good for long-range sniping/stealth kills.

You could do the same thing for Dagger kills...just dual enchant a ring and necklace with both "Sneak" and "One Handed". Even with the base bonus of a Sneak kill (double damage), it's almost certainly unnecessary to fortify One Handed on the ring and necklace, but I do it anyway.

Gotcha. I haven't gotten too crazy with the mods, because my video card can't handle much more than the vanilla game. I've got some very basic graphic mods, but I can't afford even a minor FPS hit...it's already very, very low as it is.

and I do

when the chance comes up, I will snag a copy. (ps3)

I'd strongly recommend PC if your computer can handle it, and you don't mind playing it in front of the computer....I base this solely on the availability of the "Unofficial Skyrim Patch", which is community created, and fixes a shit-ton of major (in some cases very major) bugs in the game that the manufacturers are never going to get around to fixing. The modding community for Skyrim is very, very large.
