I made the trade. This thing is a monster. It does the Vox sound, more or less. It does the Marshall-y sound. It has a nice clean. It has tons of versatility. I dig it a lot so far. I haven't had much experience with actual decent amps, so every time I get a new one I feel like a kid in a candy store. I loved the sound of the Nighttrain, but it lacked any real versatility. This thing has that in spades. With a clean and drive channel, each with a tweakable boost and an overall master volume, its more or less got four channels and I can get good sounds out of it at whisper quiet levels. I haven't had the chance to turn it up much past that yet though.

I will say that it could probably use new speakers (that's based purely on reviews and such, I'll check them out tomorrow) and I wish the master volume knob were on the front. I'm also gonna have to dl a manual to find out exactly what all these switches do.
 
It is a lot of knobs. And a lot of switches. Many of which I don't know what they are or how to use. :embarrassed:

Looks like these were made in the late 90's, but the guy I got it from bought it used and wasn't sure of the year.
 
Congrats. I've only heard one in person for a very brief time but it struck me as a firmly marshall style EL34 tone (clean and drive) with plenty of saturation on tap w/ the OD. Looks like it's got a bunch of features/options. Enjoy!
 
That thing looks completely different than the VC30 I had, but your looks good. I also had a night train once. I have to agree with you on the lack of versatility, but after all it is a single channel amp. The night train would work great in a 2 amp setup.

It is VERY Marshall-y. I could get a decent Vox-y jangle on the clean drive channel with the bright switch engaged, but it was at a very low volume. I don't know how it'll hold up when I turn it up.

It really would. I loved the NT and I'll probably end up with another one down the road when finances will allow me to have more than one amp. This thing will fill many more holes and work a little better for me now.
