I want an electric to fool around with; might even consider some electric gigs and recording. Is this too horrible for someone who doesn't have a clue about electrics?

I rather like that. I'd like the color of the Viper on this even more, but I could go for that burst.

I like those LTDs myself. Have a comfortable neck and usually pretty good fretwork. I'd save up for some new pickups though.

Oh, and I *really* like my SX model. I know The neck on it feels fantastic and the P90 is great. Since it's online only you might have to send it back if you don't gel with it, but I am still a fan.

That's the ones from balsa wood and spit?

A used Epi 57 LP Junior has a set neck. ONLY the 57 reissue has the set neck.
I saw one recently for $129.
A new Epi LP Special has two P90s and runs $299. Nice guitars.

Yes, the 57 reissue has a set neck and a dogear P100.
The cheap bolt-ons are plywood and have a turd for a pickup.

EG

 No. Worse, even.

Actually, the P100 wasn't the worst pickup I've heard...not really like a P90 but not bad. Kinda had its own thing going on, but if you're looking for pure P90 toanz, you gotta replace it.

The elcheapo epibuckers might be the worst pickups ever...The ones in the Juniors and LP Special II and such.
