No. The one with the rippin' Adrian Vandenberg solo is the one one I can listen to. When the other (difficult to tell which one you're listening to at first) gets to the "whah wha wuu wuu.. " and limps out after a few seconds I'm like "FUCK THIS STATION!!"
.. and don't' even get me started on the "Extra Keyboards" version. That one can fuck right off!!!!!
I thought Vandenberg only got to play on record on the single of Here I Go Again back then not on those two.
My understanding was the first versions of Crying In The Rain and Fool For Your Loving were both the Marsden/Moody era which was more bluesy. Crying In The Rain was John Sykes on the 1987 album, but he and Coverdale fell out before touring and Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell came in for the videos and the tour. Campbell and Coverdale then fell out and Steve Vai came in and played everything on the next album (Slip Of The Tongue) as Vandenberg had something like tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome at the time and couldn't play. Vai was the one who got Fool For You Loving raised from G to A so he could hit that harmonic on the intro if I recall correctly.
I could be remembering all this wrong, who knows, but I loved Whitesnake at the time and that 1987 album was a big part of my teenage years and paid a reasonable amount of attention to what I read about them.

You are correct. I had to go look which album that came from... because it's funny that John Sykes recorded the Slip it In record... and the "Whitesnake" record... but then Vandenburg became the guitarist...
.. then on the next record, Vandenburg was injured around the time of the recording, so Steve Vai was brought in and played on that record, Slip of the Tongue I believe it was called.
Then I can't remember how much (if any) touring Vai did with the band, because Vivian Campbell joined fresh from Dio... and man... I lose track because then Campbell joined Def Leppard...
... it's just funny when there are so many albums out there that a favorite guitarist may play on but wasn't in the band, or was in the touring band but not the recording band...

Tim Pierce recorded the solo on Runaway, not Sambora
SRV playing the lead with Nile Rogers the Rhythm for Bowie's "Let's Dance" (Like anyone believed Bowie played that solo while wearing white gloves like in the video.
)... and don't even get me started on the Phil X and other studio Monster solos that they never got credit for.

Vai toured Slip Of The Tongue as Whitesnake headlined the Monsters of Rock festival at Donnington in the UK in 1990 as part of that tour and I remember listening to it on the radio. Campbell only ever toured the 1987 album, Vai replaced him.

Fuck... I'm surprised that I remember anything from my teens and twenties.... like when I didn't remember that Van Halen was the headliner of the Monster of Rock in the US because we watched Metallica, Dokken, Scorps, and everyone else... but were butthurt about all of the keyboards on that first Van Hagar album, and walked out during VH's second song.

I will give you the guitar solo. Dave had quite the arsenal of shredders on the later albums. Sykes, Vandenberg, Vai. Doug Aldrich was great too. If the extended keyboard version was the one with yo Adrian on it, that might be part if the problem. I hated it too.
Still, I prefer the earlier versions of all three songs. Maybe that's not the popular opinion.

Also regarding John Sykes. I wonder why he didn't do the Here I Go again solo? He was the guitarist on that album. Him and David must have had their falling out before that. I don't believe the stories that he wasn't up to par.

From memory they'd fallen out and the song was remixed afterwards for the single version hence Vandenberg getting his chance.

Unsure of the reference as I do not know anyone in Whitesnake. The closest was meeting Adrian Vandenburg at NAMM when he was with the band and asking him about his Tendonitis of which he responded gracefully and was very open about it. We never spoke about music however.

The album IIRC has John Sykes playing the guitar solo but the single has Adrian Vandenberg. I remember hearing Sykes solo on the album and it was such a difference from Adrian. They may have changed it years later but that is what I remember back when - what is it, late 80's I believe.
