Well known guitar makes or models that you've never played

Most of us have played many different types of guitars over the years and can wax lyrical about their various qualities, but are there any guitars that you've never got around or had the chance to play yet? Maybe you've heard them often and could even talk reasonable knowledgably about them, but you've never actually played them yourself.

I've never played one of those classic reverse Gibson Firebirds, the quintessential type with the Firebird mini-humbuckers and the banjo tuners:

Heard them used on many records, always liked the look of them, was always intrigued, but have never actually tried one.

I've briefly tried a cheapy Epiphone with regular old buckers and tuning pegs, but never the real thing.

How about you folks?
 
The main one would have to be a Rickenbacker. They're extremely rare over here, and none of the musicians I know have one.
Would be cool to have a 12-stringer, but not for that sort of money. :embarrassed:
 
Never played a Wangcaster.

Seriously though, I've never played a Firebird or any hollow body Gibson. I was all about F#ck Gibson way before it was a thing. I played an SG and a Les Paul or four and I was only impressed once by a Les Paul studio. So I never understood the markup.

Oh yeah, them too. Played a 4000 series bass in a pawn shop once, but never a guitar.
 
The one I saw they only had it up for 375$ black like Cliff Burton's but it was so beat up and had so much buckle rash you would swear GWAR played that thing. Actual wood loss on the back. Maybe a Blacky Lawless wannabe with a saw blade codpiece?

Still should have bought it maybe.
 
I've been fortunate to have friends that churn through a ton of gear so I've had the chance to play so many traditional guitars. But.....

I've never played a 7+ string or anything with fan or microtonal frets
 
I've never played an Explorer or Firebird. I don't think I've ever played a Jazzmaster either.
 
I've never played a Ric guitar (have played Ric basses), never a Firebird...not sure if I've ever played a Jazzmaster...
 
Funny how similar these responses are...I've also never played a Ric or a Firebird. Or a Steinberger (or any headless for that matter). I've never played a Framus or a Trussart or a Tyler, though not sure if those qualify as well-known.
 
It's easier for me to list what I have played.
Fender Stratocaster
Fender Telecaster

Everything else has been "style" guitars like the LTD LP "style" I owned.
I haven't owned very many guitars, especially electric.
I've owned a Strat, Tele, Reverend BC1, LTD EC-256 and a Hofner CT Verythin.

I've never really had interest in going and playing a bunch of stuff at a store.

Add Steinberger/Headless to my list as well, have never played one.

I had completely forgotten this until now, but I tried one of those Steinbergers with the little body in a guitar store back at the end of the 80s. Did not like it one bit, I couldn't balance it on my leg, didn't like the tones, the whole thing was weird.

I kinda forget that those guitars exist, because I never see them in real life and I don't think I listen to the kind of people who play them regularly. But now that I think about it, Bowie went through a phase using them in the 80s.
 
I have never played a Ric or a PRS. I have never had the opportunity to play the Ric and never saw a PRS that I would own, so never picked one up. I have seen some PRS models online that I liked, but not in the real world.
 
I rarely saw a Rickenbacker, but I did manage to try a couple over the years.

My memory was that it sounded a whole lot thicker than I expected. I was thinking it was going to be all chiming arpeggios, and instead I played a bunch of thick, overdriven riffs, and even wailed away on the high strings. I liked it, but it was totally not what I expected. Maybe the amp had something to do with it.

I've never played a PRS. I've owned an Explorer but never touched a Flying V (in fact I've only seen one IRL once, at a gig). I've owned a CIJ Jaguar but can't recall ever playing a Jazzmaster. Never touched any high-end Gretsch or even seen a Guild, Kramer or Peavey. Don't think I've tried a 335/345/355 (ok, maybe a 335-type but then I'm pretty sure it would've been a Tokai or maybe an Ibanez). Never played any 'respectable' acoustic, any ukulele, lap steel or resonator for that matter.

I've owned too many Strats over the years but never tried a hardtail, I've never tried a Telecaster with a humbucker and I've yet to try killing a zombie with a Jackson Soloist.
