Master of the Meh
I'm in a bit of a stunned stupor at the moment. I'm really not sure how to respond, or if I can physically perform as would be required, but I was approached by a pair of my lifelong musical heroes and friends of many years to perform as the lead role in a band that is the most inspirational and formative of my life.
The thing is, the original band is based in Liverpool. Two of the four original members still live there, while the other two live in America. One of the "American" members is/was the frontman that sang, played keys and guitar. He has carried on the band name since the original break up in '86 with a long list of nobodies behind him. That continues to this day.
The bass player and guitarist back in Liverpool have been spending a lot of time jamming together recently and even hoping on stage with other locals to bang out some tuneage. Many people have asked them to put together a UK based version of the band (and they CAN use the name there) to do a tour of the UK and possibly a few Western European countries.
The former leader has no interest in taking his version of the band over there at all, so it's fair game. There's a very strong possibility that the original drummer would also take part which would be 3 out of 4. I've joked with the guys a few times about heading over there and hitting the road with them, but today I got a very serious offer to do exactly that.
Holy shit.
Apparently the old management is already on board with the idea and actually pushing for it to happen.
Leader dude has been pissed at me (though we still chat occasionally) for almost 20 years now because I bailed on the opportunity to be the full time guitar player. This would send him well off the deep end
There's a lot of details to work out, and much planning would have to go into it. Realistically it would be a 2019 thing. So, there's a pretty good chance I can get a few more surgeries and recoveries out of the way in the meantime.
I'm just fuhklempt!
I know it would be the experience of a lifetime and lots of fun, but an extended trip abroad would be tough in a lot of ways.
I just don't know what to say.
