You try to quit a band.....

Resident Ragamuffin
They got a gig a week from Saturday and asked if I could play it. Which I can. But they have not even tried looking for a replacement yet. I really think they could probably do without replacing me since the keyboard covers a lot of the same ground and the new drummer can sing all the high harmonies at least as well as I can.

And they are trying to talk me into staying. I'm getting no real good hits on my Craigslist ad, but I really don't want to do the every other Saturday rehearsals and the massive lighting system thing any more, so I don't think I'm going to return. The danger is that most existing bands I might want to join generally want younger players than me so no band situation may pop up, and I'm not talented enough to pull off a solo gig that pays. I just need to get a good set list together of stuff I want to do and learn it and move on from there.

I have no clue what this one pays.....probably not much.

Tell them your time is more valuable now that you no longer have a vested interest in the band. Before it was for enjoyment, now it's a job and you expect to be paid accordingly.

how long will you play for?

The email said 8 to midnight. If the crowd is still pretty big we will probably play longer. The band has never played there - but the stock show is in town and I guess they wanted a country band to play that weekend. They are located not too far from the airport so there should be a fair number of Stock Show people in the nearby hotels. After the last few shows having a decent sized crowd would be nice.

I'm guessing the pay for the whole night is $350 - $500. Total. I'm good with just taking my cut this time.

Yeah, it's just like when you're not going to get back with your ex but you have a good lay (supposedly no strings attached) and next thing you know you're right back where you were before. cop0

Can I get pics of said lighting rig?

None exist that I know of.

But from memory....all LED lights now...

We had 5 light bars - two in front of the stage each with 4 LED pars and a light bar on top. Three bars behind the stage with multiple stage wash bars on each and two DMX controlled DJ type lights that cast various patterns on the dance floor. We also had four motorized LED lights - two on the floors and two on the speakers. Plus a fog machine. And I know I'm missing some. He has an obscene amount of lights. If I can locate a picture I'll post it....
