Why don't they make music like this anymore?

which was kinda my point...real music made by collaboration

I had no idea that was your point.
Here's a collaboration that isn't too far off from H & O.

Biebs bringing it.

...because one guy with a computer can do this maybe?

Beethoven composed over 250 works. The vast majority are minor works that are rarely performed and have only been recorded a a handful of times. How many were just banged out between 9am and noon before he went off to give some lessons?

One guy with a computer can make like 1000 dollars from a viral video and then like 25 per cents per song for his music. :embarrassed:
Shit I’d take that…. Along with my YouTube influencer royalties, my patreon and my thirt and sticker sales I could make bank as they say….. it’s all about the hustle these days

What am I looking at here

I was kidding about the Biebs. While I don't mind the Spanish guitar, I do mind everything else.

I wasn't kidding about not knowing that your point was what happened to bands collaborating.
I thought you meant what happened to the musical sound of the 70's.
There's only one band I know of that still puts out music that could easily make the cut on their 70's albums.

They were doing pastiche of black philly soul groups.
Not in the same way. They grew up in Philly and it’s was osmosis. In todays world you can paint by numbers….the whole palette is there along with sales metrics and what is hot or not. it’s an aesthetic vibe that the ones you posted are pursuing rather than a natural progression of the sounds. As an analogy the Hall and the oats were not shooting videos in tintype videography nor were they mining the sounds of 40 years earlier

So you want music that sounds like Hall and Oates but it can't sound like music from 40 years ago?

In both cases they are lifting black music not really doing anything new except on the production end.

In the first case there is always “lifting” of ideas. The old “black music” as you put it was lifted from neighbors, church gatherings, etc. A natural progression which is what I meant by “osmosis”…. Absorbing the sounds locally and in the moment.
The examples you posted I stand by the fact that they are going for an aesthetic, first and foremost, a pre conceived idea and avenue to follow if it were similar to Hall and oats they would be just making the music but these ones are very dependent on the visual, the whole aesthetic…. A package if you wil…. Will you :embarrassed:
My post was kinda tongue in cheek. I don’t really want a reproduction of any sound UNLESS there is some artistic merit or rather a genuine feel. I’ll use the Black Criwes as an example. They were fully living from 70s rock such as Faces , humble pie etc and they wore it on their sleeves but they were in it for the long haul fully committed and using it eventually as every bit as good as their idols while making their own artistic mark of the style. Maybe it’s the times but I don’t see any of that with those examples.
