Who is the best band in the world right now?

Full disclosure. I don't know any of her songs from the past 6 years or so. I don't know if she's writing them either.

My wife is a big fan and I've bought concert tickets for her and my daughters to go this year and next year.

From everything my wife has shown me, Taylor still is the primary writer of her songs even when she works with a partner, and I really respect what she has done standing up to the asshole(s) who tried to steal her masters and rights away from her.

That said, I'm not a huge fan of the style of echo-y, layered, vocals that she favors on most of her slow and mid-tempo songs. It all turns into mush in my ears and I can't tell one song from the next. I do like the faster, darker, dance songs that she released a few years ago though.

I think Motorik made a solid argument with his Black Lips post over in "what are you listening to now"

I will repost it

Just saw Peter Gabriel on Wednesday and that's one of the best bands I've ever seen. That said, this summer was phenomenal...

- The Avett Brothers x3 at Wolf Trap w/ an AWEOME Bill Frisell Trio opening one night
- DMB, although the sets we saw were just decent
- Living Colour
- Jason Isbell
- Govt Mule
- Shakti, w/ Bela destroying as opener, but that was solo
- Sir Gabriel

Last year had:
- TTB w/ Los Lobos...two AMAZING bands right there
- DMB (yearly if we can...as the Avetts should be, but we couldn't make the ONE area show they did last year0
- BNL, w/ Toad & the Gin Blossoms...all three bands killed it, but BNL was def tops

To be honest, I've never seen a bad band/show. Sure, some sets left something to be desired and not every performance of every tune lives up to expectations (but those times they exceed expectations make up for it), but the bands have been great. Most openers too (if there are any).

Strangely enough, the Jim Irsay Collection has a ridiculously good band on tour right now, including Tom Bukovac and Kenny Wayne Shepard on guitar, Kenny Aaronsen on drums, and guest appearances by Ann Wilson.
