I'm partial to DarkSky.net, but Apple bought them last year and is the process of shutting them down.

dark sky has been the default source for Carrot weather all along so yes i heard about that. i believe accuweather will now be the default. BTW the apple weather app is better than it was in the past (still minimalist but there is more detail if you look around)

Shadow Weather has developed into a decent alternative on Android since Apple pulled Dark Sky. Not sure if its also on iOS.

I have major contempt for weather/radio television.

Weather Channel shit should be banned.

Weather should only ever be discussed in television/radio news if there’s a major storm or natural disaster.

Check online if you’re travelling or boating or flying.

Long-range forecasts info should never be able given to the media or to the public.

This is my firm position. If you disagree with this position, then I’m afraid to say that you are deeply incorrect.

I use Max Tracker for hurricane season. Otherwise I don't particularly care what the weather will be.

Im gonna go old school and say the meteorologist on the local news

ours usually does a good job of laying out uncertainties, limitations of various models, if/then scenarios, judgement calls, etc so you understand the information behind the forecast and don’t just get married to “it’s gonna rain on Saturday”

I just look at my phone and the weather is on the lock screen. If I need more information I just google “boulder weather.”

When I lived in Rapid City in 80’s there was a weather guy notoriously funny for being wrong. His bit was he would come on and be like missed here. Realizing we’ve come a long way with predictions since then, I guess one could hop, skip, and jump around the planet now with all the weather satellites. I don’t even know what app I look at but sometimes I look and it reads rain starting in the next 10 minutes. Some times it’s close. Some areas I would think are easier to forecast than others.

what about if you are planning to go camping in the sticks in 5 days and you need to know whether to bring what gear or also what if you are throwing a pool party and you need to know whether you should buy ingrediants for hot toddys or for margaritas ?
