Some ski folk never really stopped using that phrase. People a little younger than I, without kids. Dads dare not try it. One looks one is trying too hard. Some of the same people also used the phrase, "right on." Generally when expressing happiness that something went well for someone else. Such as a new job, good run, etc.

Yes, the modern “right on” has a higher intonation of the “right” than how someone like Shaft would have used it.

Somehow I think gnarly and rad sound much more out of touch than far out. It’s cyclical. I don’t see rad coming back for another decade or two.

Rad gets a lot of use from me in texting. 3 letters and better than saying awesome.
