Question: What are you practicing?

I started working on that Pink Panther clip I posted and realized I haven't actually practiced anything in about 6 months since my band ended. So I started focusing on basic chromatics and Giuliani exercises with a metronome. I'm also learning to play Autumn Leaves in two different keys. In the process, I stumbled onto "78 Wobble Stone" by Gomez when I played a chord wrong and went "wait a minute...".

I love accidentally figuring out a song. That happened to me last weekend. Was just messing around and accidentally figured out TSOL’s How Do.

Learning the solo to Touch and Go by The Cars. (Elliott Easton is a genius.). Almost have it together at full tempo. Most of it is relatively easy, but there are 1-2 fast sections with fingerings that are unusual for me. Those sections are the real challenge.

Focusing on playing over changes and trying to play more melodically.

Taking voice lessons, so working on vocals.

I've had a lousy pick grip for the past 25 years--holding the pick like a pencil--and could never get it right. I do ok when playing single lines, but my fingers get in the way when I'm strumming. I'd always revert back to my workable but bad habits when performing, so I never broke the habit. Without any performances to worry about in the foreseeable future, I'm letting my rhythm playing completely tank so I can very consciously rebuild the way I play.

I've probably been saying I was going to fix this for ten years now, so we'll see if this time works. I made real progress a few years ago, then nearly severed my picking hand thumb on a bandsaw, which have me an excuse to backslide. No excuses so far this time.

I've been picking out random songs that my church does and working on the electric guitar parts. Figured out that almost no one plays them the same so I'm just trying to get better at the genre in general.

Also - last night I decided I needed to learn 'Limelight' by Rush. Stumbled on a video of Lifeson explaining how he plays it. Aside from the solo it's actually pretty easy to play. I nearly have it down. The solo I am not even attempting because I do not have a guitar with a Tremolo on it (yet).

Yes he is.

An Acoustic version of the Vogues' '5 0'clock World', halfway through 'Classical Gas' that I used to play all the way through and have since forgotten.

It wasn't the rona that got 'im, it was a kick flip. *spits*

Never even tried but I didn't know it existed either.

Koston started those videos, but the only one I’ve watched (until your post) was one where Tony Hawk was filling in for him. It was funny seeing people on skateboards not know Tony Hawk.

Learning some country technique. Hybrid picking, different chord voicings, playing in 3rds. Using more arpeggios mixed with the blues scale on my blues soloing. I bought a piano recently so I'm practicing technique and playing and singing Dr. My Eyes by Jackson Brown.

I mean isn't Tony Hawk 50 something by now?

Today I played my Steinberger GR4, through a small practice amp, to this youtube clip by Mclaughlin and some indian musicians. I had a glass Austrian gruner veltliner to it, and the sun was shining.

I actually started playing again this past weekend after a very long hiatus of barely touching a guitar.
Decided to learn some songs that I feel are above my technical ability and have been pleasantly surprised when I put the time in.
It's also nice to not sit down and jam out the same 5 tunes I have for years, get bored and quit.

I thought this would be Skakti. I had 3 albums when I had a vinyl collection. Good stuff.
