WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO......RIGHT NOW......Mk III

That one’s on my oldies and psych playlists, so good!

Shifting into some darker territory today, pretty gloomy/rainy here.

So good! I wore out Juju on cassette back in the day, I played it to destruction. I used to have the Nocturne concert (with Robert Smith on guitar) on video cassette and watched it so many times too.

I’ve worn out several LP copies…Juju, Kaleidoscope, Nocturne in particular. And still have my VHS of Nocturne! Love that one and the earlier Koln concert bootleg w/McGeoch on guitar. I recently bought his biography, need to get reading it soon! Very big fan of the earlier Magazine stuff as well.

John McGeoch was terrific, the best Banshees guitarist IMO. The youtube guitar guy Adrian (anyonecanplayguitar) has done a bunch of McGeoch lessons, and going through them you he really shows how McGeoch had a very creative, individual style.

He was absolutely the best (although I think John McKay is often overlooked, very influential also), his playing was coming from a completely different/abstract place…which makes sense as he was an artist/painter etc. I’ve seen Adrian’s vids before, very cool to see it all up close, heavy emphasis on arpeggios which always struck a chord with me (no pun haha). I believe he posts on the John FB group from time to time, John’s daughter is on there too. I never got much into the PIL stuff later on, but love everything else he did.

I'm checking this out but I previewed Whiplash and gotta say that newkid rocks...for a guy who wasn't the singer he does a good job. first few seconds of whiplash video is missing but then it picks up

I really like McKay too.

I'm not much into the McGeoch's PiL either or Armory Show, but I really love his playing with Magazine and the Banshees. Good call on his art background informing his playing. There's a very conceptual element to his playing that doesn't seem to be rooted in rock n' roll or the blues.
