What a long strange trip

He really had a great late-career Renaissance as an elder statesman after a lifetime as the kid brother. Innovative rhythm work, solid singing over wildly wobbling music, and some mind-expanding fashion choices.

I saw him play live three times. Twice with Jerry fronting TGD, and once with Warren Haynes at the front.

I did not pay close attention in recent years. I was not aware Bob was battling cancer. Regardless, 78 is a good run.

I recall years ago, while Dead and Company were touring, Bob related experiencing a vision that The Grateful Dead would continue onward with younger musicians. I think that’s a great way to feel about the legacy of the music. Hopefully, it comes to fruition.

R.I.P. Bob. You will be missed.

I saw him last year when the universe decided Peen Simmons needed to see Dead and Co. Seemed like a rad old hippie.

Had a pretty good run.

RIP. Tomorrow is my weekly acoustic dead duo jam.
We'll def do Cassidy in memorial.
We're heavy on the Hunter/Garcia ballads but I always get stuck w singing Truckin and most of the Bob stuff we do.
Bobs passing is a sobering reminder of our own mortality, we arn't far behind.
But Im confident the music will never stop.

12/31/1987 @ Midnight, Bobby signing "Hell in a Bucket". Been a good road!
RIP Bobby and Jerry and Phil!

I was devastated when we lost Jerry back in the day, Now recently Phil, Donna, and now Bobby's passing hits almost as hard as losing Jerry because he was the baby of the band and closer to my age.
Jerry heavily influenced my improvised lead lines and phrasing but I credit Bobby for teaching me triads up the neck. He was a master of that. Nobody else played guitar in a way quite like him. He was def one of a kind.

I've never been more than a casual dead fan but I've been seeing tons of tributes. He seems to have been a lovely person and made so many meaningful connections with an incredible number of people.

I saw them a few times in the mid to late 80s when Bobby was in his short shorts and polo shirt fashion phase. I went dormant on them through the 90s and 00s, reconnecting with the music about ten years ago, although I never saw Dead and Co live. I was in San Francisco last August for a family function the same weekend they did their last shows in Golden Gate Park, but the prices were a bit steep for me.

I came back to now that the Wolf Brothers stuff with Don Was is really cool, too. Bob doing Bobby stuff on guitar, but in a minimalist enough setting that you really get a sense for what he does.

RIP

Not a huge Dead fan but listen to them now and then and have a couple of their songs in my play books, Uncle John’s Band and Althea.

Decades ago had a friend who was a hard coor Dead fan. Bobby and Midnights are playing at this small theater in DC and we have to see them. So, three high school kids from the sticks take a 90 mile road trip to DC and catch the show. It was quite the adventure, made it home around noon following day.

Found the show on Youtube. Thank you Bobby for the memories.
