Weekend Wrapup

:js:

Didn't do much...worked Saturday, errands, chores, tinkered with a couple guitars, vegged with Anderton's NAMM coverage, chatted with a couple women on eHarmony...

Friday, rode 41 miles in cloudy but decent weather, something rare this winter.

Saturday, rain. Slept in. Went to our eldest grandson's birthday party at Dave & Busters. He is now 17 years old!

Sunday, rode down the street and said, "fuck the fog and wet streets". Turned around and crawled back into bed. Watched 25 seconds of the pro bowl before saying, "fuck this", and crawled back into bed. Played with the puppies, drank bourbon, and watched some of the Grammys.

Friday was too long ago to remember.

Yesterday I was at NAMM all day, I was quickly reminded just how FUBAR my knees and hips really are. According to my Samsung S8, I walked almost 12 miles yesterday... Roughly 11.5 more than I should have. FFS, I'm glad I went, but holy Shitballs Batman! I am one sore puppy today. Can't wait for my new knees and hips!

Yesterday was also 30 days after my left hand surgery. I went without my brace (which is supposed to come off for good tomorrow morning anyway), but I haven't touched a guitar yet since the procedure. I was scared shitless over the possibility of never playing again. Since I was there on behalf of Kiesel, my buddy encouraged me to pick up a guitar that I really loved. I hesitated, but figured I had to at least try.

The first couple of chord shapes were a real chore. It was damn difficult. But, within a minute or so, I had adjusted my grip and things began to click. Next thing I know, I'm tearing up a Billy Duffy guitar solo. No time to think about it, I just did it. I put the guitar back on it's hook and took a deep breath and it hit me. Hard. My eyes must have welled up because Joe put his hand on my shoulder and asked if I was ok. I got pretty choked up saying "yeah, I am. I really am". Words can't describe the roller coaster emotions of this whole double whammy hand surgery thing. Yesterday was the end of that chapter and the start of a new one I am unspeakably grateful for. I can still play. I'm a lucky bastard.

Anyway, NAMM was fun, I didn't get to meet up with any forumites and that bummed me out. The plan was to head back up today, but mother nature had other ideas. Woke up to crazy wind gusts, bone dry air and a bunch of alerts on my phone. High wind warning, Extreme fire danger yada yada yada...

Not long after that, the wind ripped the 30'x10' awning off the house like it was nothing, while I was sitting under it. I got beaned pretty hard by one of the structural pieces. A few minutes later, SDG&E intentionally cut power to our area (again) to prevent a fallen line from burning down half the county again. At best it won't be back on until Tuesday.

So instead of going back to NAMM, I went out and bought a Gawddammed gas powered generator and all the necessary crap to provide us at least minimal power for now.

So, I'm sitting in the dark, listening to that damned generator run.

No complaints though, things could be far worse.

Friday - worked from home.

Saturday - wife was sick, so we aborted the plan to drive to Ohio and the new place, which is just as good, since it was pouring rain there all day. Did some work around the house, then a coupla errands.

Sunday - more house work and errands. Visited the folks for a couple of hours. Sat with the Mrs. and watched the Grammys, and overall, what an awful show. There were actually some good performances, but there were some really bad ones as well. My biggest problems were the production of the show itself, and no surprise guests/musicians/moments. Bleh.

Started off Thursday evening with the Dead Shrimp Blues, posted about that in another thread.

The weekend itself was the usual - golf, cooking, and the CD ripping project.

Oh I managed to get some guitar playing in!

Quiet weekend for me.

Friday - took my black Tele in for a setup. My tech said I almost nailed the setup my self. He filed out the B nut slot, raised the low E a bit and fixed the slightly off intonation. I was glad to hear I was very close to getting done myself.

Saturday - played some guitar, ran some errands.

Sunday - did some things around the house.

Friday. Stayed home and did the netflix grazing. Watched Hired Guns. Wanted to but didn't drink.

Saturday- errands and a new haircut. Went to a local tavern and gf I was with had pizza. I didnt. Just ate a few clams. And had 4 Miller Lights over the course of three hours. There was a time I could put back 20. Got a call asking if I could fill in for a gig on Sunday due to the original having the flu. I accepted and felt like a Hired Gun

Sunday- gigged and had steak. Didnt drink.

My life has gotten complicated lately, and I had a brunch this weekend that exemplified this: it was me, my amicably soon-to-be-ex wife, my new housemate, her ex, her current sort-of boyfriend and some other friends, including 2 2-year olds. thoroughly modern, and a bit of a mess, but still good.

Friday - had the afternoon off so I came home and caught up on my sleep
Saturday - Groceries & errands in the AM then the Intl. Auto Show in the PM. Stopped by Pok Pok for dinner.
Sunday - Picked up some new clothes and it started clearing up. Got out on the bikes then drove out to the coast for dinner in Canon Beach.

Monday - bonus day off! Plan to make some barbacoa and maybe some jerky. I'm sure I'll wind up working some today.

Friday - Appointments at the office, then chilling at home.

Saturday - A few morning appointments, then rehearsal with John, the accordion player. Grocery store later in the evening.

Sunday - Church in the morning, took Carol to dinner in the evening.

This morning John and I went to the Palmer Community TV studio to do an 11-song program. They have a very professional setup, Much fancier than many I have been to. The filming included three cameras and the vocal, guitar, and accordion each on a separate track. The finished product should be pretty neat.
