Friday was too long ago to remember.
Yesterday I was at NAMM all day, I was quickly reminded just how FUBAR my knees and hips really are. According to my Samsung S8, I walked almost 12 miles yesterday... Roughly 11.5 more than I should have. FFS, I'm glad I went, but holy Shitballs Batman! I am one sore puppy today. Can't wait for my new knees and hips!
Yesterday was also 30 days after my left hand surgery. I went without my brace (which is supposed to come off for good tomorrow morning anyway), but I haven't touched a guitar yet since the procedure. I was scared shitless over the possibility of never playing again. Since I was there on behalf of Kiesel, my buddy encouraged me to pick up a guitar that I really loved. I hesitated, but figured I had to at least try.
The first couple of chord shapes were a real chore. It was damn difficult. But, within a minute or so, I had adjusted my grip and things began to click. Next thing I know, I'm tearing up a Billy Duffy guitar solo. No time to think about it, I just did it. I put the guitar back on it's hook and took a deep breath and it hit me. Hard. My eyes must have welled up because Joe put his hand on my shoulder and asked if I was ok. I got pretty choked up saying "yeah, I am. I really am". Words can't describe the roller coaster emotions of this whole double whammy hand surgery thing. Yesterday was the end of that chapter and the start of a new one I am unspeakably grateful for. I can still play. I'm a lucky bastard.
Anyway, NAMM was fun, I didn't get to meet up with any forumites and that bummed me out. The plan was to head back up today, but mother nature had other ideas. Woke up to crazy wind gusts, bone dry air and a bunch of alerts on my phone. High wind warning, Extreme fire danger yada yada yada...
Not long after that, the wind ripped the 30'x10' awning off the house like it was nothing, while I was sitting under it. I got beaned pretty hard by one of the structural pieces. A few minutes later, SDG&E intentionally cut power to our area (again) to prevent a fallen line from burning down half the county again. At best it won't be back on until Tuesday.
So instead of going back to NAMM, I went out and bought a Gawddammed gas powered generator and all the necessary crap to provide us at least minimal power for now.
So, I'm sitting in the dark, listening to that damned generator run.
No complaints though, things could be far worse.
