Remember earlier I talked about testing all the wood to see how well it ebonizes? Here's a perfect example of why and today's natural chemistry lesson.

The light colored strip of wood is sapwood. Sapwood has no tannic acid in it and will not stain using my method.

This begins to give a sense of scale, no?
Remember, the neck tenon goes under. There's about 6 1/4" from the end of the fretboard to the bridge.

And because of it, I'm wondering if dogears will look freakishly huge there?

Thanks.

Doing a little alignment test. This is where it starts coming together.
I realize I'm only clamped to a solid slab here, but the tone is already starting to come through. It's much twangier than I thought. It'll be interesting to see how much the hollow body tames that.

A question about pickups....

Was talking to Bryan Gunsher. He agrees that two dogears will probably look pretty crowded in there.
He suggested maybe doing a single pickup.
Another option would be to use smaller pickups.
Dynasonics? I have a really good Fender OV tele neck pickup I could use. Would need a small-ish bridge pickup to go with it.

Any ideas?
