Volume pedal suggestions?

I need a volume pedal... there are a couple of Ernie Ball VP Jr's on craigslist in town but I've read some bad reviews on those. The price is right on them (one is a year old and he's asking 50 bucks)

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a plan. I like my Ernie Ball Jr. Where in your signal chain you planning to use it? That has a big impact on which you should get IMO.
 
If you have at least one buffered effect or tuner, the EB Jr. is a steal at $50. I would buy it!

It's going in the effects loop, probably something like this send->Volume Pedal->chorus pedal->eq pedal->sonic stomp->return

Mainly going to be used as an overall system volume control, and won't get touched a whole lot (just little tweaks)

I used to use a PodXT live for this (among other things)

I love my Ernie Ball pedal, I use it
Mainly at home anymore but It is

In that case you might want the one with the pot impedance for active circuitry. I don't know much about the science behind it, but IIRC it helps with the taper if you have a preamp running in front of it.
 
I have something called a Mr. Crybaby, which is a combo volume/wah with a switchable boost on the side. I've never used the boost, but the volume and wah are fantastic. Very smooth. They run about $150 bucks, but you'll get your volume and a wah to boot!
 
Just picked up a Boss FV-50L for 20 bucks! See how it goes. I think the L version is better for me since I'll be using it in the loop, not out front.
 
Seems to me most of these are tone killers. Been using an EBVPjr for a while, and it is a robber. I put it in a true bypass looper so it's only in the chain till I need it. I was looking at getting a Goodrich myself, expensive but considerably less tone destructive.
 
I have found my Ernie Ball volume pedal to be reliable,transparent and built like a tank, but the sweep is a little too broad for me. I mostly use an old Roland volume pedal found at a yard sale for $4. I may pick a VS Visual Wah one of these days. The LED volume indicator would be a handy feature.

I've had a Goodrich sitting here for a year that I have never ever used. One of these days I need to try it out. It's not like its on a pile of spare effects either, I've just never plugged it in.

The traditional passive volume pedals can affect output and top end the same way a Volume control on the guitar does. I prefer to use them them after a buffer in the chain. I do have some

If someone wants one, I do have a dirty, grimy Bespeco VM12 volume pedal I'd part with for the cost of a box and postage. It was given to me for the same.

That looks exactly like the Zoom volume pedal I have. Mine has a volume knob on the side as well, so you can set the minimum volume to whatever you want. It's a handy feature if you're using it to boost leads (or more accurately, to cut rhythms). It's a cheap plastic pedal that wouldn't be very road worthy, but I did use it a few times in my live rig until I discovered using an EQ as a lead boost.

No additional knob on this one...just the treadle volume control...I've never opened it up, I assume a basic 250K pot.
