Val Kilmer Passed Away

It was a bit daft with the native American appearing but apart from that it was a good film.
I wasn't aware that he could be a dick to work with though.

Divisive then I guess. A lot of people don't like that movie. But yeah, I find it hard to split his Jim from the actual Jim in my head.
I went to Reddit and read up on it, seems it's those same folks that can't stand to say anything critical about a dead person saying "Jim was kind and friendly, and the film didn't show him as that and it was just meaningless sex and drugs".

I mean HELLO! It was a movie about Jim freaking Morrison in the late sixties!!!!!! Even according to Grace Slick Jim would take whatever drugs were given to him on top of whatever he was on and never saved anything for later.

Lord knows what he was like from one hour to the next. I could go on and on about these folks, ask me about my Michael Hutchens example some time, but I don't want to hijack the thread any longer.

Again RIP Val, I liked his work.

Unpopular opinion but The Doors was a great movie and he was terrific in it as Jim Morrison. RIP.
I liked the movie, particularly, Val Kilmer's acting. RIP, Jim & Val.
Since when is that ^^^^ unpopular?

In my days he was seen as the ONLY person that should have ever played Jim.

RIP
Oliver Stone responded to the criticism of his movie by admitting that he failed to capture the joy from that period. I think that's a fair dig about the movie. Yet, the darkness is the most interesting part of the Doors history and Morrison IMO.

Having gone through my own drug, and alcohol, fueled history, I was able to imagine, and feel, some of the fun, even if it wasn't so obvious in the script. I still look back on my party days with fondness, even though plenty of it was out of control, and negative. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

RIP.....i was just watching Tombstone last night.

My reading his biography while I was in high school probably wasn't the best influence, but I managed to avoid the destructive path via the hard stuff.

I was definitely a fan. I get sucked into watching Tombstone every time I come across it. It's on satellite television 10 times a week, every week.

He was great in MacGruber.

RIP.

The Doors is a good movie and Kilmer did a great job selling himself as Jim Morrison. But it’s a work of historical fiction the same way that Amadeus is, so I can see why some Doors fans would be put off.

That's sad. I like his stuff. My fave bit is how he went from big smile on his face to fully focused full auto in a split second when walking out of the bank in Heat. It's a nice tiny, tiny detail, executed with perfection, that tells a lot about his character. Like Pacino's character says "Drop of a hat these guys will rock 'n' roll..".

RIP

We were talking about this at work this morning and everyone seemed to have a different favorite movie of Val's. From Top Secret to Top Gun Maverick, he had a helluva career. RIP Val.
