Hot or Not? This Telecaster

So, is there anything specific about walnut as a tone wood? In other words, why go with walnut if you don't like its looks? I would want to see the grain, at least, even if painted...

It was walnut my father in law gave me. I bartered some to a builder to make a couple of guitars. My father in law wants to see me use it to make the guitars.

Because of weight, I'm doing either chambered or thinline on mine.
I'm told walnut teles sound pretty good.
Denser than mahogany, less dense than maple.
Also, it's old growth and very well seasoned.

Nice looking Tele....one of my fave Tele colors.

For a walnut Tele I would just use a clear finish unless it is a really ugly bit of walnut.

I'd play it. I'm in the camp that would prefer a maple board, but I like that one well enough.

What is it with the maple boards and Fenders that people love so much?
I don't get it. It's just a fretboard.

For me, its just a visual preference. There are colors I prefer a rosewood board with and colors I prefer a maple board with. That's all

I gotta admit that Gibby's black tele with maple and black block inlays is way cool.
Worn out, nasty looking maple boards just look  to me.
