The year in review?

Well, there was the whole "you've got cancer again" thing, That kiboshed our planned Spring Break vacay to Europe, and the 7-hour surgery is still causing side effects I'd just as soon not discuss, which is really fucking with my head.

That said, I'm above ground.

And I sold the Chibson SG Junior, for full asking price, to a local scene acquaintance who didn't actually have the dosh to pay for it immediately, but since I was going on our Thanksgiving/Fall vacay at that point and wasn't going to be playing it anyhow, I was able to do him a solid and told him to come get it and just pay me when the dosh came in. Which he did, so that turned out nicely. Plus the money from the Chibson offset more than half of the $500 I paid for an actual Gibson (LP Studio) w/ohsc. So gearwise, a good year, though I still have a Gibson gigbag and a Marshall combo I need to unload.

I got talked into joining a third band, which did a couple shows, and has been kinda up and down, but still fun at times and definitely pushing me skillwise, since I'm not at all used to doing covers. Main band played 5 shows, would like to do a few more this year. And our 4th album.

My Mom is 90 and has some serious health problems but in general is OK. Father-in-law also has serious health issues and probably early signs of dementia, but at least they're still here and we got to see them around the holidays. Inlaws moved to FL from ATL so they're a lot closer, and that's nice. Daughter is still out in California, so we got to visit her out there and drive bits of the PCH over the summer.

High point was probably the Thanksgiving/Fall vacay. Three weeks of no work, I've decided to not take my laptop on vacations any more. We went to Venice, Bologna (we have friends there), and Florence, and then took a train up to Switzerland for the final week. Really nice, and got around without too many problems despite my extremely limited Italian and German capabilities. I know how fortunate we are to be able to do something like that.

Mojo to all what needs it. Some crazy shit going down out there.

Don't really want to. It was a rough year. Sorry I haven't been around much. :(
Hey, you've gotta do what you've gotta do, right? We've got your back, man.

Trust me... I get it. Spent the past year plus recovering from the only surgery I've ever had (cervical fusion of C5-C7 with a plate) and collecting stipends for work tasks that other people can't seem to figure out. Sure, I'm making more money, but everything is significantly more expensive and I'm too damn tired to do anything.

Didn't stop me from buying/building a whole bunch of guitars, though. LOL And both the wife and daughter are now actively learning how to play as well.

So many of you have mentioned retiring... It'll be 19.5 years for me. Gotta be here 30 years before I'm fully vested in my pension. :annoyed:
My wife and I are still both vertical and breathing, so on the whole it was positive, absent current events. For the first time in about 35 years of playing and refereeing soccer I also had plantar fasciitis. That stuff sucks!
Gotta spend more time horizontally with the missus.

I’ll forget a lot here, but on the upside I got a positive performance review with a pay bump in the spring and then a promotion with a pay bump in November; I won a few guitars and a special edition pedal; I feel that Mrs DCF and I are closer than ever (not that we weren’t close before) despite the stress of the house renovations.

On the downside, the house renovations put some temporary stress on our relationship and our finances. The relationship recovered. The kitchen was done late last year, but we’re taking the original contractor to court. So, that’s money out until we win. Then the roof leaked. So, a full roof, siding, soffit and fascia, and gutters..and 100k later, the house is in good shape on the outside. Lots to do on the inside still.
I didn’t really make any progress on hobbies and projects. I didn’t really drive the NewYorker except for a spring wake-up run around the block.

Overall, I can’t complain. It wasn’t a great year. It wasn’t disastrous either.
You left out the part about winning 28 different guitar gear raffles.
