You can use it to fix the nut of your guitar.
Bevel the edges of a fret
Level a fret
etc.

All while the strings are on. Makes verifying your repair faster.

it can't do any of those things. all it does is pull the strings out of the way. which i can do with a couple of paper clips and a rubber band.

I move the 3'rd through 6'th string to the opposite side of the tuners and the 1-3 to the lower side (sorta like that pic) and hold in place with a capo behind the nut if needed.

I would worry about denting the back of the neck.

You can also use about 2 1/2" of a 3/4" wooden dowel with a single V groove on each end. The strings can be spread three on each side. Wrap the dowel in electrical tape or rubber tubing to protect the fingerboard surface.

what kinda toolbag doesn't have paperclips?

My toolbag!

I also don't have rubber ands. Got a lot of tape though.

I can't remember the last time I used a paperclip... probably in college when we couldn't find a roachclip. :embarrassed:

The paper clips always end up either in the trash or straightened.

With electronic documentation, the need for paper clips are no longer needed. Besides most things get stapled if not in electronic form.
