Song suggestions needed for an American-themed party...

I'll try to pretend this is a new thread with no comments yet.

It depends on what you actually mean by "American-themed."

If you're talking down-home, cowboy hat, rustic, then you probably want country and western music, and I'm not too up on that stuff. Please please please avoid Lee Greenwood, though.

If the songs should be by USA-identified artists (I'd say USA based, but so many Brits have lived in the US for decades that the label would be too broad) and reference the US in their titles, then you have some biggies already mentioned like "American Girl," "Born in the USA," "California Girls," etc.

What about songs that sort of evoke a sense of the US but aren't so obvious in their titles? I'm thinking of Son Volt's "Windfall" or Pavement's "Unfair."

I guess I watch more Graham Norton on BBC American than the rest of the forum. I thought the comments were in line with British humour and not political commentary Sort of like how we talk about New Jersey and Detroit.
