Newsflash! Soccerball International Championship thread?

Just looked at the first round matches.

The Netherlands aren't in it this year? Usually they have one of the better teams.

At least I know I want them to do well...

The semi-final reveal one (when I'll be about 6,000 miles away) is total bullshit, a local bowling club is going one stupider and not opening the envelopes until half time during the final!!!

That's not going to end in tears and fisticuffs :embarrassed:

Netherlands have been quite shite the last few years. A bit of a generation shift happening, and about 2 good players currently.

Weren't they in the semi-finals in the African World Cup? The one where everyone was tooting those Vuvuzelas? That wasn't all that long ago.

The 2010 semi-final match (which was won by perpetual WC bridesmaid, the Netherlands) was rather an embarrassment, IMO. Players on both sides spent much time hacking each other and rolling around the turf in fake agony. I had always favored “Clockwork Orange” until this match, but the combination of poor sportsmanship along with the always execrable Arjen Robben ruined that for me.

I bet the house on Italy.
I hope they come through.

I bet it all on us. USA! USA! USA!

Not a football fan really but I did watch the opening ceremony and the first game.

Saudi Arabia may as well go home.

Will watch England beat Tunisia and make everyone think they're going to win the tournament, only for it all to go wrong. Again.

Its weird that Holland and Italy aren't there. Thats what happens when you suck at soccer ball I suppose

The Netherlands, in particular, sportsed their best but they were unable to score many points nor to stop their opponents scoring many points against them which in the long wrong turned out to be fatal to their campaign.

Last time out in Brazil the Oranges did OK largely because Louis van Gaal is very good at what he does. (This has always been van Gaal's view; it is increasingly widely shared.)

Spain vs Portugal today should be a good match. I'm not sure who I'll root for. I really enjoyed my recent trip to Spain, but, on the other hand, I really like port (and cork is pretty useful, too). IDK.

I am not the biggest fan of Spain, but seeing CR cry would be fun :embarrassed:

They've been totally potato for the past 4 years. Last world cup it was a giant surprise that they got that far, they were playing like shit during the qualifications. This past 4 years it's just been a massive string of embarrassments.
