As an England supporter, well done Croatia. Now please stuff the French.

I agree with the assessment that the English defence switched off and needs more experience and also that for some reason players who create week in, week out in free play for their clubs seem to be struggling to repeat that internationally. Hence the reliance on set plays where you at least get the cross in for free.

Pickford is my English player of the tournament. Definitely came of age and should only get better from here.
 
One thing I'm wondering about England: Is the number of Harrys in this cohort a result of the birth of Prince Harry? :)

Agreed that Pickford was the shit - just a drop dead performance for the ages throughout the Cup. As for France - fuck France. These shitbags embody the worst aspects of 'international football' and nothing would make me happier than seeing MCrappe get carded for his sub-Neymar histrionics.

In past Cups, one thing I've loved is how many players I've come to appreciate by seeing them over the weeks. In this Cup, I came to dislike far, far too many players.

If France wins, Germany should simply walk on to the pitch and take the trophy, and we can all watch the French run away. Fuck, sorry, that's war, not football.
 
Interesting game - Croatia is outpossessing France by a large margin, but several shambolic defensive lapses have France firmly in command...
 
Interesting match. I was distracted with cooking and stuff, but had good luck looking up in time to see goals.

Congrats to France. And congrats to Croatia for an incredible performance getting to the finals.
 
Bit gutted for Croatia tbf. Still, an excellent world cup overall I think and var was a good introduction and should only get better. Shame they are fucking it now with so many more teams in eight years or whenever it is
 
As expected, France winning it without playing good football. I wanted Croatia to win just because of their work ethic and passion. With a better referee, they might have had a chance.

All in all it was an entertaining world cup with a lot of surprises and some great matches

Thought Croatia deserved the win, but they just weren't clinical enough today. That penalty didn't help either...very harsh.

Tournament as a whole was thoroughly entertaining imo :)
 
And this is why the World Cup ... is ... not as interesting or compelling as some other sporting events.

Which is really a shame - 10-20 years back it was far more entertaining. FIFA needs to clean up the game, and that's like asking the Devil to reform the Church.

And they should scrap the offside rule while they're at it, if they ever hope to achieve the truly global reach of e.g. the Superbowl.
