Played my first round of golf today

The high point of my weekend was a birdie on the 15th, a short but diabolical par 3. Had to hole a putt that was somewhere in the 40-50 ft range, which doesn't happen to me very often.

Swing has been coming around pretty well lately, looking forward to getting out there again on Saturday.

played 9 today.
didn't do too badly, shot a 46, with 4 three putts.
driver is starting to work well.
had several holes that were driver, PW, and 2 putt for par. :baimun:

the greens were horrible, plastered with cottonwood.
i'm still hacking, 2+ hours later
(all cottonwood trees should be cut down.....all of them!!!)

EDIT: update: have had a bronchitis flare up for over a week, because of all the cottonwood dust.
didn't play at all this past weekend because of wind and we've had NO rain. maybe next weekend.

Just finished 9 holes of scramble where I was the most experienced golfer in our group.

That’s not good.
I am capable of good days of golf. Today was not one of them.

We had fun though and the weather was great.

It was an interesting weekend. Really windy, so hard to score well. And my short game got iffy at times, but was great at others. Nearly holed a plugged bunker shot.

My swing lately is as good as it has ever been though, so that feels really good.

And here's an accidental screen shot I took, when plotting my 2nd on the par-5 3rd. As usual, I was laying up short of that creek.

played 18 today (first time this year) and i'm poooooped!!!
driver is working really well and going further. mid/long irons aren't so great. the wedges are pretty good, but considering what they are, they SHOULD be pretty good. (Mack Daddy 4's).
shot 91, which isn't too bad, breaking 100.
but it was a Loooong round. we teed off at 11:30 and didn't get off the 18 green until 4:20. very slow.

edit: just looked at the card and i par'd 11, 12, 13...bogied 14 and birdied 15. pretty good run.

Yeah yesterday with the heat I was really dragging the last few holes. Today I hung in there better.

Next weekend will be even hotter.

we're not looking too bad for next weekend. 84/85.....so they say.
that's a week away. could just as easily be snow. :eyeroll:

Played Torrey Pines North again today. I managed to hit some greens in regulation and had a few chances for a birdie, but alas my putter let me down today. Lots of 3 putts. I had a couple of good drives, but most were in the rough. Iron play was better, and I got out of two green side bunkers clean.

Going to pick up some clubs after almost 30 years of not playing. I played a little in Chicago around 2009 but I don't really count those 2 or 3 trips to the course with buddies over the span of 20 years. lol
I don't really care about exact fit or quality right now. I found a coworker that is interested in playing so we will both suck and that should make it more fun. I'll get the fit as close as possible. There's a cool 3 hole course to play on at the LPGA courses about 5 miles from my house. If I get decent we have a lot of world class golf near me that I can go throw my clubs in their lakes.

Not hit a ball since Autumn but I've just been offered a recreational membership of a local course where you pay your fee then rounds are taken off the balance, once it hits zero you top it up.

Probably going to go for it, it's certainly going to be easier on the wallet than a traditional expensive membership.

one of the courses i play (usually play) has an "express" card you can buy for $60 U.S.
when you buy the card, that first round is free (if you're playing 18 holes that would cost $35 otherwise)
then after the first round you get $5 off of 9 holes OR $12 off of 18 holes, each time for the rest of the season (December 31).
so the card paid half of itself with the first round and i've saved something like $25 in the last 3 or 4 rounds. and it's only mid June.
i'll EASILY get my money back from the cost of the card.
:party2:

edit: it's kinda like having a partial membership to the club.
or membership lite.

This one is something like £300 which includes your R&A fees and £25 for the bar leaving you £250. A round during peak times is 25 credits / £25 so I can get 10 rounds in for the membership which at this stage is probably good going.

We had some slow players ahead of us the other day. Usually I don't have to wait for the first 9 holes, but last time we were waiting from the 2nd hole on, and by the time we got to the 12th hole there were 3 groups waiting there. It was quite irritating.

last sunday when i got to the course (15 minutes ahead of my tee time) there were 6 carts lined up for the first tee.
they said they sent off the first group at 6 am and their tee time sheet was completely full until 3 pm. very busy.
somehow, when we got to 12 it all cleared out and we had the course almost to ourselves. when we got back to the parking lot, there were only about ten or so cars left.

My fear is I'll be the one holding everyone up. That's why I'm heading to the 3 hole course for a while until I can get my legs back under me.

Don't be ashamed to play the forward tees. You will enjoy yourself more, and keep up the pace just fine. And pick up your ball after you are 2 or 3 shots over par for the hole.
