Our monthly "Gibson in Imploding" article.

I hope in the reorg they get rid of that idiot. Gibson would do well with a new CEO and a return to guitars as a focus

They really need to focus on guitars and QC. I’ve been playing Gibsons on my trips to GC and it’s amazing how some feel great and others are garbage.

It is weird how much their setup can vary on new guitars, especially when they plek everything. All my Gibsons are relatively high end and have been flawless. Well, the blues hawk is a cheaper model and it is great. I’ve certainly played some real dogs from Gibson, but I’m not sure if it is more or less than from other brands. Certainly, the low end stuff is more miss than hit, and the standard models are usually pretty good. Artist models, Memphis historic models, and custom shop models are awesome. Mostly. Of course, you can’t tell if it feels dead or alive until you play it. That is an issue of wood, and not really the builder. I’ve played tons of high end guitars that were beautiful and well made but just felt dead, and some cheap guitars that just sang.

I’m not sure how, but firing Henry and having him live in a cardboard box on the streets is clearly the answer. Maybe even having him torn apart by a pack of wild dogs would help.

I would hope the higher end stuff is setup well. And I’m sure the dogs I have played could be setup and be just fine. The funny thing about my experience is that I was playing guitars from the same price range at different stores. Even the same model at different stores. I played an LP like the one Scott just got at one GC and it was one of the nicest playing guitars I’ve ever played. If I had the extra cash on hand, I would have bought it and I’m not really and don’t even like LPs. I played the exact same model at another GC and it was terrible. Sharp frets, strings at different heights, wouldn’t stay in tune. And it wasn’t that one GC sucked, they both had good ones and duds.
