@Tiltsta do you ever see any American muscle cars over there?

Back in 2013 when I saw Kamelot in Joliet Il, it was the weekend that NASCAR was racing at the Chicago Speedway (just south of Joliet) and there was a car show going on in downtown Joliet. I was standing in line for the concert right next to a Swiss gentleman who I had met previously at a Kamelot show in 2011.

There was a new Dodge Challenger parked right next to where we were waiting in line, and this Swiss guy told me, looking at the Challenger, "I want one. We have NOTHING like it in Switzerland. Drive past in a Mercedes, no one would look. Drive past in a Ferarri, some people would look. Drive past in one of these, everyone would stare."

Yeah, there are quite a few. Overall, the Swiss really like cars. Fast cars are especially prized. Old muscle cars are pretty common weekend sights, as they sold a lot of those cars here in the 60’s and 70’s. I think a lot were also a lot imported later for car collector types. Old mustangs are probably the most common of the muscle era, but I also see a few old mopars. I think ford sold mustangs here in the 60’s. Dodge too sold cars here and still does (all three of the big US companies sell US models here). Chevies are really rare, both old and new. I live in the third largest city in the country, and a huge hub for industry, so my experience is probably quite different than a person living in the high alps or other rural places. I agree that a Ferrari here will only get a quick glance, if that. My street (with maybe 20 houses on it) has two Ferrari owners on it, a ton of Porsches, and lots of other German cars. We have no muscle cars that I have seen yet, but I’m sure some lurk in the underground garages.

Strangest thing here is that despite the love of cars, people here are not flashy and showing off wealth is in poor taste. As a result of this cultural twist, you see a lot of gray, dark blue, black and brown supercars. It is also really common here to buy the giant engine AMG or M car and order it with no badges indicating it isn’t a low power deisel model, and to be safe, get it in a dark brown paint. Still, like the Germans, there still is a passion for power, and one can order a station wagon with insane power plants. My wagon does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. :)
