OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

The Freedom Caucus has 31 members in the house. If you dont draw up a shitty bill you don't need them. Hook up with moderates from across the isle. Then when the elections roll around, put up a candidate in the primary and funnel the money to unseat the FC member.

On this we agree. We also know neither party actually wants to work across the aisle. So when you call yourself a moderate, like MacArthur did, what does that really mean? He's been deposed for it.

exactly. the freedom caucus is an extreme right wing minority. i really don't know why the rest of the republicans are so afraid of them. they are virtually 'nobodys'.
but the gop IS afraid of them. maybe there's some skeletons in the closet. i don't know. and the numbers the caucus represents are hardly a majority. HC won 3 million more votes. 'nuff said. the ONLY reason cheeto won the election was from (illegal) gerrymandering. which is starting to implode, with the courts.

I have actually heard Christian leaders speak out after abortion clinic bombings and distance themselves and their beliefs from the people carrying out those acts. And just for the record, I am not a Christian.

There's a big difference between those 2 religions. There is no fear of reprisals from Christians in this country for drawing cartoons of Jesus or writing books critical of the religion. Doing that in reference to Islam can get you killed anywhere in the world. In fact that's a big reason why there is so little secular scholarship and criticism of the Quran like there is for the Bible. Even Cat Stevens (forgot his current name) publicly agreed with the call to kill author Salman Rushdie for writing The Satanic Verses. Christianity and Jesus are the subject of humor and criticism constantly in the western world, through fiction, scholarship, art, and entertainment (along with Mormonism, Scientology, etc.) with no fear of any serious consequences.

And for the record I also opposed any attempt by Trump at a Muslim ban and believe in religious freedom. But certain religions do not believe in religious freedom. The problem is with all people who are trying to control what other people believe and do. Those are mostly religious people.
Using diversionary verbiage to "condemn" an evil act without addressing the beliefs that drove the assailant to act as they did, is just trying to save face through lip service.

I won't apologize for any religion or its followers that engage in violence, bigotry, oppression etc.

Whether, as some say, it's only small pockets of followers that "pervert" the teachings of "X", or not, at some point you have to question those teachings and decipher just why so many "pervert" in exactly the same way.

The Crusades weren't carried out by a splinter faction. The Inquisition wasn't a minority congregation going door to door handing out leaflets.

Here in America, there have been acts of terror and mass murder carried out by "Christians" since Columbus landed. We as a nation treat that fact like fiercely kept family secret about that one uncle that did unspeakable things to cousin Jenny. But, when someone from "that other family" is caught doing the same crime, we point fingers and hysterically stir up fear by painting every member of that "family" with the same brush.

I'm not afraid of Muslims, or Sihks, or Hindus, or Christians or any other. I'm afraid of them all, not as individuals, but as a whole. Atheists and Agnostics too. Equally.

The fact still remains, the leaders, the people with the strongest influence should be out there everyday condemning hate and violence from within their ranks... every day. Unfortunately, "faith" is what prevents that from ever happening.

Well they don't qualify as humor anyway, so...
And despite what Breitbart tells you, CNN does a good job of reporting the facts.

For reference:
fact
fakt/
noun
plural noun: facts
  1. a thing that is indisputably the case.
"the most commonly known fact about hedgehogs is that they have fleas"
    synonyms: reality, actuality, certainty;

Wtf? Hedgehogs have fleas is the go-to demonstration of what a fact is? Holy shit I just lol'd so hard at that in a bar that people are looking at me funny.

oh yea....oh yea....oh yea.
"faith" is the excuse for EVERYTHING. when they can't show any scientific explaination......it's "you have to have 'faith' "
biggest f'ing lie ever told.

Thanks.

My image of Hedgehogs and the once high esteem I held them in has been shattered.

My favorite part of the speech is so revealing:

So, let’s start with the facts.

The historic record is clear: the Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and P.G.T. Beauregard statues were not erected just to honor these men, but as part of the movement which became known as The Cult of the Lost Cause. This ‘cult’ had one goal — through monuments and through other means — to rewrite history to hide the truth, which is that the Confederacy was on the wrong side of humanity.

First erected over 166 years after the founding of our city and 19 years after the end of the Civil War, the monuments that we took down were meant to rebrand the history of our city and the ideals of a defeated Confederacy.

It is self-evident that these men did not fight for the United States of America, They fought against it. They may have been warriors, but in this cause they were not patriots.

These statues are not just stone and metal. They are not just innocent remembrances of a benign history. These monuments purposefully celebrate a fictional, sanitized Confederacy; ignoring the death, ignoring the enslavement, and the terror that it actually stood for.

After the Civil War, these statues were a part of that terrorism as much as a burning cross on someone’s lawn; they were erected purposefully to send a strong message to all who walked in their shadows about who was still in charge in this city.

Should you have further doubt about the true goals of the Confederacy, in the very weeks before the war broke out, the Vice President of the Confederacy, Alexander Stephens, made it clear that the Confederate cause was about maintaining slavery and white supremacy.

He said in his now famous ‘Cornerstone speech’ that the Confederacy’s “cornerstone rests upon the great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery — subordination to the superior race — is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.
It is a great speech. Really moving. Gets to the heart and truth of the matter.

Nothing like slicing 800 billion out of medicaid, social security and food stamp programs. That should sell well among his rust belt and elderly supporters. I'll enjoy my tax cut but it isn't like I need it like people need food stamps.

Freeloaders. These people are illegal immigrants. They're criminals and deserve to be cut out. It's the Christian thing to do. :embarrassed:

i saw that earlier today.
unfortunately.....there are lots and lots of people who've been brainwashed into thinking their 'heritage' is "the south is gonna rise again".....and fight tooth and nail to preserve it. i spent my entire military career down there. it's never going away. can you say lynyrd skynyrd, molly hatchet....et al?
just sayin'

I don't think Skynyrd ever epsoused the "South's gonna rise again" philosophy. They certainly were painted with that brush by the public and media because they were a southern rock band, but their songs don't reflect it.

Trump's budget cuts children's health insurance program

"I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid. Huckabee copied me."
[from one of his twitts]

and clearly your proposed budget proves that you were lying all along.

fuck you, cheeto!!!

I don't think it proves he was lying all along. It proves that he has alzheimer's or dementia. He can't remember what he said 10 minutes ago, yet alone on the campaign trail. He is constantly saying, tweeting or doing things that completely contradict things he has previously said, tweeted or done.
