OMG Politics, I'm over it already.

Yes I do. But the issue is the same with the primaries, which I mentioned in my earlier post (#336) and was expanding on that. Sorry if that was confusing, but the later time zone issue clearly references the general election.

So what about those 150 EC votes that nobody will try to woo?

The primaries technically don't exist under federal election law. That's why each party has different rules in different states. Amending the Constitution to end the Electoral College would probably be a much smaller hurdle than ending the Red & Blue political invasions. There's too much money in primaries.

That said, if you end the Electoral College, there's no money in going to low turnout areas. All pandering will be done to urban centers, and even then, nobody will go to Stamford or Fresno to stump unless they really have to take a piss.

This idea that the polls close 3 hours later, so your vote doesn't count, is ridiculous. West Coast votes count just as much to presidential campaigns as votes anywhere else.

I don't understand why anyone thinks doing away with the electoral college is needed. There have only been a handful of times where the electoral vote and the popular vote weren't the same.

First the electoral college. Then the gold standard. Then we get jet packs and free energy.

WAKE UP!!!!

"Over my dead body"

I rarely do a straight copy and paste from FB, but this actually happened to me when I went to vote this morning:

Know your rights and your state voting laws, folks! The poll workers tried to force me to vote provisionally because I used an alternate form of ID, even though it was one that the State of Ohio recognizes as valid proof of identity. When I was working the polls in 2012 this was a common intimidation and voter suppression tactic and they were NOT pleased that I challenged them on it. Ultimately I was given the appropriate ballot, but only because I was aware of it!

Please friends, make sure that everyone you know that is voting today is aware of their state voting laws and identification requirements, otherwise their vote will probably not count!

Removing the electoral college won’t change presidential races much. States with high populations would still have high population densities, so it would still make sense to focus on them and just let the media carry the message to voters in similar demographic blocs around the country. Presidential candidates would keep skipping Wyoming, Montana, and the Dakotas, because they could just pay lip service to farm and oil business in California, Texas, and Ohio and let Fox news spread the word.

But dropping the electoral college would strip congress of a very important check on the presidency—the ability to overturn a mob mentality election that puts a lunatic in charge of the US military. Given our massive nuclear stockpile, and the efforts of radical fundamentalist religious groups to co-opt our military, it’s important that this check is left in place. Just imagine a 2020 candidate getting elected on a “Nuke Mecca, Medina, and Beijing for Jesus” platform.

Do you think Trump will win this time and be running as an incumbent or you think he will run again?

it REALLY pisses me off that so many of the poll workers attempt to (and often succeed) in using their partisanship to either disqualify voters or influence the voter to vote for a certain candidate/party. and it goes on A LOT. and it is STRICTLY ILLEGAL.

EVERYBODY......if you get any nonsense from the polling workers that appears to attempt to influence your vote or intentionally disqualify you for political reasons....PLEASE report the person to the county elections board. these poll workers are volunteers and are supposed to know the rules. but if they are violating them, the only way it's going to get fixed is to report them to the elections board.

I can't imagine a scenario where somebody who was disqualified to vote wouldn't think it was because of their political affiliation.

it happens all the time. it almost happened to Andy, today. except he knew the law. most folks do not.

Thats some crazy shit. Our poll workers just look up your name, check you off their list and ask if you prefer a paper or electronic ballot, then give you an 'I voted' sticker when you put your ballot in the box. I have never witnessed any type of intimidation or attempt to disqualify a registered voter.

I don’t think he will, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does win. Clinton is a terrible campaigner with no charisma, so she could blow it.

And I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone even crazier nominated in the near future, because unless a constitutional amendment overturns citizens united, it will be easy for another crazy rich guy to run using the same populist and anti-corruption rhetoric that Trump has. It was a very bad idea for the GOP to spend decades telling people that government is horrible and corrupt while simultaneously packing the supreme court with people who think it makes sense to allow effectively unlimited campaign contributions.

Oh, I'm not saying it does or doesn't or that every case is one way or the other. I made that comment to suggest that regardless of whether or not folks are being discriminated against, they will always take it that way.

When I saw it happen in 2012 it was VERY obviously party and racially oriented.

Today I called and emailed my county board of elections to let them know what was up. It was not the first complaint they had received and it was before 7 a.m....
