For anyone that is following them.

Serena basically unforced error her way out of competition. Fun to see the swimmers go. US Women gymnastics was very cool, but I still find it hard to watch. Impressive, but I don't know. I prefer a race. Looking forward to track.

US Women swimming has been impressive. Ledecky is amazing. The other women have done well. And Phelps? What can one say? Pretty impressive.

Phelps and Ledecky winning races last night was fun.

I'm not big on the showmanship aspect of gymnastics, but what those athletes do is amazing. I was wondering why we've only seen the ladies - has the men's competition not started yet, or are they just not shown on NBC because we aren't as dominant as in the ladies competition?

The Chinese lady gymnasts were freakin me out. Ours are young, but the Chinese ones look like they are maybe 8 years old. :messedup: One of them claimed to be 20 but I aint buyin it.
 
wtf did Ukraine do? pretty pathetic. there should be penalties or a ban. people take this way to seriously to have nitwits like that in the games.

I'm really confused as to how this keeps happening.

I'm also disgusted with the individual governing bodies for allowing the vast majority of Russian athletes to compete.

I've not seen much and can't get enthused about it tbh.

Britain are shitting the bed in the boxing which is quite a surprise. Watched a bit of the diving and some gymnastics but nothing's overly impressed me.

Men's gymnastics was on the TV in the bar last Saturday.

From what I read, they wanted to save their energy and not risk injury for the individual competitions. I don't see how this can payoff.

I remember playing baseball and when the coach would have you take a couple of pitches, it was always harder to hit.
 
US men gymnasts are not doing well, so you won't see much of them on NBC. The coverage last night was better than the past few nights, but here on the West Coast I am royally pissed off that we have to get a delayed broadcast WAYYYY after the events have happened. Why not show them live? It is impossible, in this plugged-in era, to NOT get spoilers.
 
The women's gymnastics team final.... wow. Those women just cruuusssshhheeeed their opponents.

Their team scores were 8 point ahead of 2nd place.... 2nd through last were separated by only 4 points. Some of the difficulty in the final three tumbling runs.... a few years ago would have seemed like CGI or science fiction. Unbelievable!!

Yeah but the performance enhancing drugs are much better than a few years ago :embarrassed:

PEDs really wouldn't help that much in gymnastics.... except maybe vault. There's so much more to balance, control, flexibility and spacial awareness that just being strong wouldn't help with.
 
a medalist in judo got mugged and beaten up on the beach. that is sad but unfortunately predictable.

Lots not just about being strong they can do all sorts of funky stuff with your blood cells, oxygen levels, hormones etc... That will give you an edge in any sport.

Another Brit has just got his arse handed in the ring :-\
