Dig it! NGD (red danelectro content)

it's a 1956 reissue.

that said, Ellen is really only wrong on technicality. in the 90s, that guitar with a gloss paint job, rosewood bridge and stacked pots was called a U2. then they came out with the intonatable bridge and called it the U2 Pro. with the current round of reissues, Evets gave the U2 Pro a flat paint job, a black painted neck, brushed hardware, and master volume and tone controls.

Hmm... Mine has the black painted neck, chrome hardware, and a glossy paint job. Also, I might have forgotten to mention that I got it used.

Also, this thing is crazy loud unplugged. It sounds like a hollow body. I love it.

It's semi-hollow - basically a poplar or laminated wood frame (depending upon the model, and the vintage of the guitar), with a masonite (hardboard/pegboard material) top and bottom. Believe it or not, Danos sound pretty cool, with some cranked up gain. I'm thinking of giving my U1, a run through the Marshall Valvestate tonight, after work. It has this cool, kind of hard driving folk-rock tone at high gain. Like Gretsches, it seems like Danos have become a part of my guitar playing life. I never seem to go without one for long.
