New Superbowl Thread. Talking about the game/event!

Fuck baseball...There's hockey.....The coolest sport on the planet..........

When we put roller blades on baseball, football, basketball players and have them perform their sport, then we're talking....

Until then....ah.....*spits*

Roller Blades? thwap0You're killin' me Smalls.

When hockey players can hit a puck in mid air at 100 mph and drive it 40o feet, then we'll talk. Hockey is tennis for eskimos:grin:

Loved this as a kid!

That movie was the first thing I thought of when I saw this in the Childhood Memories thread.

Patriots World Champions!!!!!!

Sorry, but any sporting league that consists of teams located in only one country cannot make the claim of "World Champions".

This applies for all sports, athletes and teams who have claimed this in the past under similar conditions. The "World Series" is a bit presumptuous since only one MLB team is outside the USA even though players come from many countries. We continue to see the same obnoxious claim every year in the NBA. We see it in F1 racing because teams, drivers, and auto manufacturers are from all over the world.

It would be just as stupid for the Australian Football League champions or a NASCAR series top points driver and team to claim they are the "World Champions".

Just give me the skier-cross. Four guys (or gals) (six in the X games) out on a course at once. First one down wins. No subjective judging, no deflated balls (just really big ones to hit those jumps), thrills, spills, action.

(those two Crist boys are locals from here, they never did ski in the Olympics, though Skier Cross is now a popular Olympic sport)

No roller blades required.

Well you can kind of slide it now since the NFL is also played in Europe as well. Let's not forget that at one time there was a league in Europe called NFL Europa - sadly it ended in 2007.

Having 2 American teams play a game in London doesn't exactly mean that they are European.

That is today, but as noted there was an NFL owned league in Europe called the WLAF (World League of American Football). It was later renamed NFL Europa.

WLAF was found in 1991 as was the spring league for the NFL. Seven of the 10 Teams resided in North America and the other 3 in Europe. The league lasted for 2 years.

WLAF returned in 1995 and had 12 seasons 1995-2007. The league had teams represented by Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom and the US but by the end, 5 of the teams were based in Germany.

I didn't really realize that the Superbowl Halftime Show was really not a big deal until Michael Jackson did it in 1993. I mean, I remember watching the Superbowl as a kid, even if it was the only football game I watched, but I don't remember the halftime shows.

Looking at the list of halftime performances, it looks like Gloria Estafan has performed 3 times either as a solo act or as a member of the Miami Sound Machine.

Who knew?

Heh, I see in the 70s and 80s they had "Up With People" like every other year.

I agree, when they had MJ that is when halftime hit the bigtime.

I used to love the Punt, Pass and Kick competition at half-time. I remember "Up With People" along with College Marching Bands performing at half-time.

Actually, we're the only country that knows how to host a World Championship sporting event. We don't invite other countries. That way, the champion is always American (OK, occasionally Canadian, but we pretty much own Canada).

USA! USA! Patriots World Champions!

No, not at all. That is exactly the kind of arrogance we should avoid.

Ever heard of the FIFA World Cup? The Winter/Summer Olympics? Ice Hockey World Championships? UCI World Road (Track, MTB) Cycling Championships? FIS Alpine World Ski Championships? FAI World Parachuting Championships?
I could go on for hours...

Not trying to be a dick here, but this is something ugly that isn't seen from the inside. Traveling the world has put our actions and attitudes in perspective, that's all.
