New PC build in the works

Lerxst

spaghetti and blankets
Starting to plan a new system build around some gaming & light gopro video editing

Ryzen 7 3700x
RTX 3060 Ti....when it's back in stock
32 GB DDR4-3200
WD 500 GB SSD for my boot/primary
Gigabyte B550M micro ATX motherboard
SeaSonic M12II modular PSU
Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite 120
Case TBD

I'm thinking this should get me some really good performance right in at about 1,200 bucks and have decent upgrade potential, if needed in the future.

I started pricing out both Mac and PC options for a 2021 build..... performance has gotten even more expensive than it used to be in the past. I used to be able to build a machine for $1000 that would crush it for 4 years.... Now I'm looking at twice that money to hopefully last 2 or 3 more years. :embarrassed:

I’m tempted to build one because there’s a new turn based Warhammer 40,000 game. I love turn based games. But I also know that if I buy one I’ll end up playing Fallout and Skyrim until my eyeballs start to melt, so I’m just sticking with my iMac.

Do it! Skyrim is fantastic

That's very similar to my build from September. I also went Ryzen 7 3700X. That chip should ship with the Wraith Cooler, which is actually very efficient and multiple comparisons show it to work as well as or better than all but the most extreme liquid coolers. If you have an efficient case, the liquid cooler is totally unnecessary. Can't imagine heating that thing up enough to need liquid. It's actually made by Cooler Master and is quite stout. Check that out before you spend the extra dough. I have a brand new CM Liquid Cooler sitting in the box I don't need.

That processor is possibly the greatest ever for music production. Quite a dramatic switch from the troubled recent past with AMD lagging far behind Intel in that regard. The tables have turned big time. I can throw an absurd load at it and it doesn't even begin to complain. We're talking projects running over 30 tracks of software synths, audio, and numerous plugins running simultaneously at 96K 24 bit resolution with 5ms latency buffering. No sweat.

That's also including running a dozen or more external MIDI devices via combination of standard MIDI 5pin I/O and USB... that are then being recorded via the audio inputs of the (Focusrite) interface.

It's totally absurd and I love it!

I went ASUS ROG/Strix B550f for my Mobo, and am running multiple SSDs and NvME drives. 750w power supply, 32gb DDR4 at 3600 (and actually clocking at 3600). Carried over my old 750Ti video card until the new super duper stuff is accessible and it's more than adequate.

I went crazy with the RGB stuff, but not on purpose... my main goal was to assemble a collection of stuff that was known to work well. My priority was functionality over anything else. Ended up with a crazy rainbow of flashing lights that are silly but kinda fun.

Great feedback.
Thanks for the tip on bundled cooler...I see it listed on the box images but not in the description I was looking at.

My son has that Ryzen chip and the cooler it comes with is top notch as OGG said. He has a 2080 super and 16gb ram, mods there ever loving crap out of his games and it stays quiet and cool all the time.
Save the money up front and upgrade later if it shows it wants to run hot.
He's running dual monitors at 4k. No issues.

Nice. I bought the 3700X chip as well. The rig is basically done except for the video card... I'd like to get a RTX 370, whenever those come into stock. The only reason I'm not running it is that this one runs so damn well. One thing I bought recently is a 27" LG 2K monitor. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YGZL8XF?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_detailshttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YGZL8XF?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details

I should have bought it a year ago. Fallout 4 has never looked so good.

welp...it took 10 months but I finally managed to snag a 3060ti founders edition off best buy

I bought a 1050ti as a hold over a while back so I'll be selling that off when the 3060 arrives.

The build already runs great so this is the last piece of the puzzle.

I need a new PC soon.

I’m torn between gutting the case I have and upgrading everything or just buying something built.
I mean, I’d open the thing up almost immediately and add in some of my own stuff but the whole process of shopping for motherboards, cpus, and ram just seems a lot less fun than it used to be.

Finding compatibility specs is the biggest pain.

I really want a new GPU for Christmas. The 1660 Super I bought in 2019 was going to be a stopgap until the new 30-series came out mid-2020. *sigh* I almost wish I had bought a 2070/2080 TI when I built this.

Finally
