NBD - Oh, Lord. What has she gotten herself into now???

The fates already f'ked me sideways
I got a good price on this ESP LTD B-206, and I've been wanting to work on some song arrangements. For example, Chinese Satellite by Phoebe Bridgers has a great drum beat with each drum tuned to a different note with a backing bass line. I plan to attack it using two hand tapping and strumming chords. It requires me to rethink bass playing and approach it more like a piano. I think it will help me overall as a musician. So I have some work ahead of me over Christmas break.

This thread inspired me to pull out my Brice long scale 6-string bass guitar. I bought it from (sounds like Hondo Music) during one of their blowout sales. My brother bought one too.

It’s a fun instrument. I don’t have any trouble getting my fretting hand around on the wide fretboard. But, my arm starts to get tired supporting the weight of the neck.

I like that ESP LTD better. But, I’d never play it enough to justify it.

@PunkKitty Congrats! 6-string basses are cool.

I've always wanted one with two high strings instead of a low B. But not a Bass VI.

I could restring one that way, but in the end, every one I've ever picked up has been a boat anchor.

Have fun though. I envy the purchase.

When I first got my Brice 6-string bass. I went to D’Addario’s website to create a custom set of strings. I ordered individual strings that were much lighter than normal, so that I could tune the bass E to E, like a typical guitar. It worked, but still created extra tension on the neck, making it more challenging to play. I’m comfortable adjusting single truss rods, but this neck has 2 truss rods, which I had never encountered. Instead of changing the setup, I tuned it Eb to Eb, which seemed like a decent compromise for a time. However, In the long run, I finally settled on tuning it B E A D G C or B E A D F# B, because it simply works better in those tunings.

(edit). Whoops! I meant that I tend to tune in B E A D F# B most often.
