Lexus LFA: I just got invited to drive it!

OGG

Master of the Meh
I'm not really a fanboy of this car, I actually think it's kinda stupid... But, since they asked... Yeah, I'll come drive it.

If you don't know what it is, check it out online. It's Toyota's answer to Ferrari, only it cost a lot more and you have to give it back after a couple of years. (So, you pay a quarter million for a car you can't keep). It's a technology showpiece, much like my Nissan GT-R, only, once again... Not as fast, doesn't handle as good, and cost 3.5 times more

Full review coming soon.

I agree. It really is a pointless car. You know it was a bad idea when there are still 25 available. Normally these types of halo cars sell out before the public is aware of their existence. IMO it's way too expensive, way too heavy, to many electronic gizmos. I imagine it would a fairly souless car. Much lime driving a video game. It fatal flaw is it sports a Lexus badge. The King of producing boring cars for boring people. That being said I wouldn't pass up a chance to drive one. I'm interested to hear you thoughts on it.

Considering very, very few people will ever drive one of those that is a very sweet offer, even if the car is not all that and a basket of sliced bread.

I have a lexus.

And yes, i am actually more important than the lot of you.

I love to take a run in it. You are a lucky bastard, even if it costs more and is slower than similar cars.

Well, i can just say, i have had plenty of cars with passion. MG, Fiat, Buick GS Stage 1, Mustang GT. Couple streetbikes, 4 different 4X4s, buggys, Sentra SE-R Spec V, Dirt bikes and quads. I think my count is up to 25 cars at this point.

Anyway, spending over an hour each day with my commute, i love the lexus. It has 202000 plus miles on it, runs like a clock, and makes me plenty happy. I have owned it for 7 years now, longer than any other. 3 liter V6, 27 MPG, and i have no regrets at all.

Your car is a great car. It was built when Toyota still gave a shit and before they started drinking their own kool-aid. You have every right to be proud of that awesome machine.

As a "Car expert", I wouldn't touch a new Toyota with a ten foot pole. Honda either for that matter. It's not that they build "Bad" cars or anything, it's that they DON'T build better cars than several other manufacturers that all charge less for more car. I think they (Honda and Toyota) are falling victim to the same kind of mentality that all but decimated the American car companies in the late 70's and 80's. It's a cycle. Companies get to the top, stay there for a while and then get complacent. Eventually, a crop of new kids, or "hungry" kids pops up and knocks their dick in the dirt. We've seen Hyundai, Kia and others step up their game immensely in recent years, while other perennially "Solid" makers like Nissan and Mazda quietly plug along building high quality cars with flavor and pizazz.

Honestly, has there EVER been a more "Vanilla" car than a Camry or an Accord?

Sure, they're pretty good cars, but no more (and in some cases even less) reliable than their competition, they get shitty mileage, and yet they cost substantially more than cars that are far superior in many ways. Especially on the used market for cars that are 3-5 years old. You can get a killer late model Maxima that will kick the shit out of Camry and Accord all day long for less than a same year model of either of those two.

So, this LFA intrigues me a great deal. I've already read up on it substantially. I appreciate the technology of it, but in my book, only an asshole would spend $375,000 for a car you have to give back after two years (unless after spending that same $375K, you arrange to give Toyota EVEN MORE MONEY to keep it). But you'd have to be an asshole of epic proportions to do the above for a car that gets completely schooled by a half dozed other cars that are all cheaper and in some cases, a mere fraction of that price...

So, I'll let you know how it drives.

^^ I totally agree on all counts. I can't think of a single Toyota or Honda product I would like to own right now. Bland styling and bland performance for a premium price. I'll keep my mazdaspeed 3 thanks.

Im car shopping now. The only cars Im remotely interested in are the Jetta TDi or GLI, the Mazda 6, or the Hyundai Sonata. Nothing else out there really interests me at all.

...Im not exactly car shopping...lets just say im counting the days until I pay off my pos Neon...anyway, the more and more I see, and think about the Sonatas, the more I like them...a little air of luxury about them, but without the price...a friend of mine is dead set on a newer (within 8 years) Camry, but ive been trying to steer him towards the Sonata...

A note for anyone interested in a new Hyundai - Mrs W can get you a "Hyundai Circle' deal - invoice plus current incentives (and whatever the shipping is on the car), and no wheeling and dealing with the dealer. Mrs W gives you a document and you hand it to the dealer and get your car. You still have to secure your own financing but it locks in a good price for you. They are really trying to build a new customer base and so they are giving the employees the opportunity to pass along deals on a grassroots level.

That's an awesome deal :thu:

I was on GM's similar program for almost 20 years.

And in those 20 years, they never had a single car I wanted
