Nixon wasn't forced to resign. He resigned to avoid being impeached, which still wouldn't have necessarily removed him from office. He thought it was best for the country after Watergate. He also probably did it because if he did, Ford would pardon him.

Nixon did a lot more than erase 18 minutes of tape, namely directing (or at least covering up) his staff breaking into the Democratic party headquarters. He resigned because investigators were getting close to proving the cover up, which would have meant jail time. Although it was never proved, Nixon obviously cut a deal with Ford for a pardon.

Mark, is there someway to only allow posts in these threads WITH a picture?

I'm not suggesting ONLY pics, but that they be the minimum requirement for participation. I mean we have a whole thread dedicated to political machinations.:thu:
