Lady Gaga at the Oscars

I like bubblegum pop. That said, I can't see the point of her putting on a Comedy English Accent and banging out "Eidelweiss", and that aspect ratio so doesn't suit her.

This thread is like a Fame performing arts school run by Nazis.

Been done already

Did any of you all catch his performance? She was outstanding. I've been saying for years that she's an amazing talent hopefully more people will realize that

I am sure a lot of people realise she is a talented singer.

Doesnt make her music any less excreble

She has a wonderful vibrato. Without it her voices isn't quite as pleasant, but it is still pretty good. Her singing talent has developed lately.

Unlike most pop divas, she actually give a shit about people, especially the kids that feel lost. No telling how many lives are better because of her. That kind of gift is priceless.

No.

Some (most) of the acts you mentioned were pioneers in that regard and for the most part get a pass based on originality.

I've known Alice Cooper since I was 4 years old. Lovely guy. I find his shtick to be pretty lame.

Elton John is a fucking brilliant musician on a level that simply can't be compared to Lady Gaga. She has a lot of talent and ability, but her shtick is just rehashed Madonna narcissism.

Marilyn Manson can choke on a bag of dicks. His music is shit, his act is shit, and from personal experience, he is shit.

Kiss was original. They still suck. If not for their shtick, they'd have been forgotten in the 70's.

Gaga clearly has the goods to be a viable commercial success without all of her ridiculous eccentricity. I'm all for artists using the quality of their work rather than the debased side show circus freak persona to succeed.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. It's too late for her. You can't put the Genie back in the bottle. She made her name by using theatrical, attention whoreish means. That should remain her legacy.

Plenty of wildly talented and successful acts out there who don't lean on gimmicks in order to sell records or concert tickets. When Jason Mraz was playing the local coffee houses on his nights off from delivering pizzas, he didn't resort to wearing clown shoes and a zoot suit with a neon motorcycle helmet to get noticed. He put his nose to the grindstone and honed his craft to a point where success was the only possible outcome. I love that kid. He inspires me endlessly, and is as genuine as anyone in the business.

So, harsh?

Maybe.

So be it. There are too many fabulous artists out there for me to give my time to, that don't go for the cheap attention grabbing Sideshow Bob bullshit.

I can live with harsh.

Hey, buddy. Don't go knockin' Sideshow Bob. That guy is the real deal. :)

Yeah besides, Sideshow Mel will never come close to Sideshow Bob.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others. :)

What is sad is that it seems to be a revelation now a days when someone who has been a chart topping singer can actually sing and write.
Well, because we have Beyonce foisted upon us (by people other than Kanye) as this transcendent talent when it takes 482 people to write a song for her that has the same word repeated over and over while only a drum beat plays barely in the background.

I mean, seriously, Dethklok's "Thunderhorse" has more lyrical content than some Beyonce songs and it's a joke song.

No, of course not. Not even the tiniest sliver.
Sorry, I must be dense. I don't see any bit of it there. I certainly didn't intend any. If using the words "her" and "she" are the criteria, then I'm guilty.

I called Kiss attention whores too, does that count?

Not trying to start an argument, but I'm legitimately at a loss as to how that tag applies to anything I posted.

Besides, the first line of the original post asks us all if we saw "his" performance. ..

The Freud is strong with that one.

But Gaga can actually sing where Britney sounds like drunk dude in drag autotuned.

Gagas songs sound like she is autotuned to shit as well.

Both make music not worth wasting precious time on.

Which I dont

It's important to realize she's not only a Gaga, but she's a Lady first.

Lady is the equivalent of Lord.

You wouldn't call Lord Byron an attention whore.

I rest my case.

I assumed by the placement of the word that it was a typo and should have said "this" instead of "his".
I could be wrong. Ask my wife!

Well, I never said I actually liked Gaga's tunes, but she's got a voice. I can't knock her on that point. Like Christina Aguilera. Shit music performed by a fantastic voice.

While I am not a fan of her music, there is no denying her talent.
Some people may complain about how she went about getting famous, but I think she simply did what it takes to get noticed and to "make it".
At the end of the day, as much as many of us musicians like to think otherwise sometimes, it is all just entertainment. Something to amuse us and to take our minds off the everyday problems and to fill the time between work and chores. She entertains a lot of people and puts a little smile on their faces, and I can't begrudge her success at doing that.

And that Oscar performance was very enjoyable to me.
