they really would like to be getting the cheap "Chibson" knocks offs out of the market,

FB marketplace in my area is loaded with those. The sellers are specific about listing them as “Gibson style guitar” when they have a Gibson logo’d headstock that’s even stamped with a serial number and MIA so they know what they’re doing. No where in the listing does it mention the origin other than the dead giveaway of $300-$500 for a new LP Standard.

THAT is the kind of shit that should be prosecuted.... but it's almost like killing cockroaches with a hammer.

That's where the IP protection in trade negoiations w/ China come into play as probably the only potentially effective means of stopping the counterfeit guitars/goods streaming out of China (not to mention the impact of how China handles the Universal Postal Union). The sites where these things are being sold aren't going to do anything about it and like you say, you'd be chasing your tail trying to stop the sellers.
