I've decided to go with an exceptionally long thread title, but really, it's just a place to discuss the 2026 R&R Hall of Fame nominees

shoeless

Riffin'
Here's the list. Some of them are questionable "rock n roll" choices to me.
  • The Black Crowes
  • Jeff Buckley
  • Mariah Carey
  • Phil Collins
  • Melissa Etheridge
  • Lauryn Hill
  • Billy Idol
  • INXS
  • Iron Maiden
  • Joy Division/New Order
  • New Edition
  • Oasis
  • P!NK
  • Sade
  • Shakira
  • Luther Vandross
  • Wu-Tang Clan

A couple of those acts definitely deserve the nod, but how the hell are the Smashing Pumpkins still not on the list?!?

This looks about right. Bruce Dickenson talking would be entertaining. I'm guessing controversial too.
Foghat got boned yet again.

Iron Maiden is NOT in the RnR Hall of Fame? WTF?

Clearly I don't pay any attention to who is and who isn't but aren't they kind of one of the founding fathers of metal?

You are thinking of Metallica. They got in in 2009.
Did you know they built The Hall with poop bricks?

Iron Maiden have been saying vitriolic stuff about the HoF for ages. Not as bad as what Johnny Rotten said, but not much nicer, either. I doubt that the members would actually vote for them. I’m surprised that they keep getting nominated.

While I don’t think much of the R&R Hall of Fame, these are the artists I’m rooting for the most. I know everyone hates Mariah’s Christmas music, but she is a legend, despite the over saturation of her Christmas abomination.

Phil Collins had quite a few mega hits. It's hard to believe he's not in.

That’s fair, but I don’t like his solo music. That is why I did not include him on my list. He’s very talented, yet his music rubs me the wrong way. He probably should be inducted.

i don’t necessarily dislike the rest that I left out. I’m just apathetic. I like The Black Crows and Oasis, but IMO they are not so great that they should be rushed to the front of the line. Let them wait until it’s their turn.

Like U2, you don't need to be a Phil Collins fan to recognize he's an obvious Hall Of Famer.

You are spot on about The Black Crows and Oasis.

It's a terrible oversight that Neil Sedaka wasn't nominated. It's hard to believe he wasn't inducted years ago.

I love Sade. But do the royalty of smooth jazz really belong in the rock and roll hall of fame? Jazz is a pretty distinct form of music. Then again, rappers get in, and Sade gets sampled constantly, so maybe it makes sense that way.

Ah that would explain it

While it’s easy to dismiss Mariah Carey as “the Christmas Singer” for those who only lived through her “hot mess” era after her various divorces…. There was a point when she was simply “the voice”.

Before Christina, Ariana, Beyoncé, and all these artists who made a living off of singing runs and warbling through chaotic vocal gymnastics… Mariah was a force of nature with power and clarity, singing notes we had never heard before… and all of this was before she had performed a full live concert. She recorded her first album and for most of us, the first few times we ever heard her sing was live on the Arsenio Hall Show.

Let’s not also forget that she co-wrote the majority of the songs in her catalogue… not just sang the hits written by committee for her. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Songs_written_by_Mariah_Carey
