Weird Pick Butt Person
Yesterday I got a long-awaited formal offer for a job in North Cackalack! (said with love, if that's a slur coming from a northerner please let me know)

It's a bit of a pay cut from my current gig, but is much closer to family (but not tooooo close) - mom and pops are getting up in years and I do like spending time with them. It's also much more of a better fit with what I've discovered I like, teaching-wise (lotsa first-gen students, mostly from underserved communities; fewer rich white kids). Significantly lower cost of living will mostly offset the pay cut anyway. I will genuinely, non-sarcastically miss winter, but am looking forward to more green space.

I think there are some North Carolinian weiners - tell me about your fair state and fill me with excitement or dread!

(actual move won't be until some as-yet-undetermined time early summer)

Where about? I have friends from Greenville that are currently domiciled in Ashville.
 
Very proud to have been born and raised in Greenville and have friends and family scattered throughout the state to this day.

Love me some Carolina…you’ll love it too, I’m sure.

Congrats.

I spent a couple of days in NC for work.
Don’t rent the Plymouth PT Cruiser from the airport. It’s a rattle trap.

Other than that, I enjoyed the visit.

my tenure as a FIB was a bit short, but I coming from Chicago I could buy a huge, godawful mcmansion where I'm moving! (or more excitingly, a modestly decrepit shack on 50 acres of pine woods)

out in the sticks - Laurinburg/Pembroke/Lumberton area, south of Fayetteville; just north of the SC border. My folks (and brother/sister-in-law, and by random chance a half dozen other friends) all migrated to the mountains north of Asheville over the last decade, so they'll be a bit of a drive, but closer than Chicago (and a leeeetle bit of distance is a good thing)

I was stationed in North Carolina,and loved it.
I had 4 guys in the platoon from different parts of the State. We'd take trips to their hometowns on weekend passes. Good times

I think Myrtle Beach up to Wilmington are all pretty equally close. There was at least one faculty member that I talked to during interviews that puts up with a long commute to live on the beach

Bit of a schlep to find metal shows (Charlotte?), I suspect
 
That’s cool! Should be a nice change of scenery for ya.

I saw two Dead shows in Charlotte in ‘89, so that’s hallowed ground… :grin:

I remember an episode where Barney went to metalpalozza in Raleigh so, I'd check there.

My oldest son lives in Durham. Have lots of cousins on the West side, haven’t seen them in decades, Boon area. Congratulations on your move.
