Needs a black guard.well here it is... I guess it's not as exciting in the morning light. in fact it's probably about the most boring guitar you can think of. it's a black strat... but what makes this one interesting is it is an 87/88 Fujigen-made black strat. It's kind of a hybrid between a 50s model and a more modern version (1-ply guard but grover tuners and non-50s logo). It was $799 including a period-correct hardshell case.
It is in very clean condition and comparing to other models online it appears to be 100% stock. the pickups are much maligned online but I think they actually sound pretty nice. mellower and warmer (though some may say duller) than the ones in my american professional I strat...
I got it with the intention to flip and make a (modest) profit but it actually plays really well, the reputation of these late 80s MIJ strats in terms of the necks and the overall build quality (electronics aside) is very positive and this one definitely matches that. it feels really nice, like a worn in pair of blue jeans. i am tempted to hang on to it at least for a little while even though this makes three strats for me (if you count the George Harrison "rocky" strat I got)
Anyways that's it... not as wild and exciting as that explorer, but... there it is...

probably not - i still haven't found what i'm looking for, reallyA Strat and an Explorer in one week! Is your next tribute band going to be a U2 one?
HNGD!
Same with the ceramics in the old MIM Standard. They got a lot of hate and are probably among the most tossed away PUs in the history of the electric guitar. But some folks really dug their mellow character and slightly hotter output. At least that's what I've read on the internet.Update: I don't understand why everyone hates these pickups so much. I'm pretty sure that these are the original ones that get so much flak since a bunch of similar guitars online have the same ones.
I've been doing a lot of switching back-and-forth between this and my 2017 American professional, which also has stock pickups (V-Mod). I might be crazy but I actually think the ceramic pickups sound better. They have a mellow sweetness to them. The other guitar still sounds good, but it is a little bit harsh when I am comparing them head-to-head.... so there you go. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet...

Aka "dropped"?Nice. A while ago I picked up an 87 MIJ Squier Telecaster from a pawn shop. I used the neck on a shell pink Telecaster build. A friend lightly reliced the body.

I'm not questioning his methods. I like how it turned out. That's all that matters.Aka "dropped"?
