How many Greatful Dead bands in your town?

You're in luck...you can see most of them in one place, in a couple months:

I saw the Dead in the seventies, no need.

There are quite a few who are either in the area or play around the area a lot. One of my local favorites is Box of Rain.

Funny, for a band that, based on guitar forums, is the most hated band around, there seems to be quite a market for people who want to hear (and dance to) those songs. :hippie:

Dead and Company is cool, but at this point not too different from any other Dead cover band, other than having two of the remaining members. It would be much like Paul and Ringo touring as Beatles and Company; it would be neat, but not the same without John and George.

Bob, Micky and Bill.

Still, they aren't trying to be anything other than the continuation of what began decades ago. As Bob said in an interview recently, he had a dream he was looking down at the stage, and the guy with the grey hair and beard playing guitar was John. Handing down the music to the younger generations is what it is all about.

I am not knocking them, just stating that it isn't the same thing as having the full band with Jerry.

I’m with Gary. While I certainly wouldn’t turn down a Dead & Co ticket, they don’t excite me enough to shell out the bucks or the hassle.

I kinda thought the same thing, as did my wife (with 176 Dead shows attended), and we avoided 'further' and other incarnations over the past 20 years..., but decided to catch D & C last June. Fantastic show, John was great.. not Jerry or aping Jerry, but playing lines clearly inspired by Jerry. They were awesome, and we plan on seeing them every time they play at home.

I did shell out $10/night for a live broadcast of the Chicago Reunion shows at a Birmingham bar. They had a big screen and their own “Wall of Sound”. Had a great time. I would gladly do the same for a Dead & Co. show. But I wouldn’t fight the crowds for a real show unless the ticket was practically free.

When they play Shoreline Amphitheater we get reserved seats so we can hang in the parking lot / bazaar for as long as we want. The concession lines are pretty short too. It's all part of the fun filled day. Waiting in line to get the best chunk of lawn is not my idea of a good time anymore.

Interestingly enough, when they played Soldier's Field a couple of years ago, I thought about making a pilgrimage .... and was shocked that resale sites had GA area tickets for under $40. That's close to 'free' as far as I am concerned.
